Browse Forums Outdoor Living 1 Feb 26, 2010 11:05 pm Hi all Just about to start excavating for 2 terraced retaining walls down dip at 800mm high each and i am trying to find out if there is a minimum horizontal distance between the walls that is required from NSW SEPP's? I cant find anything on the council (lake macquarie) or the government website. So i thinking there isn't any. Anyone know about this? Re: Terraced wall question 2Feb 27, 2010 6:26 am More to do with design of walls than min. distance, as would need council approval will also require engineer report. What are you constructing walls from? It will be constructed from core filled mortarless besa-block. Re: Terraced wall question 4Feb 27, 2010 9:23 am if your having these walls close together only problem will be the footing. Normal practice would be to excavate width of both walls, pour footings and build both walls from same level, so you will have one wall 1600 mm high and one 800 mm high Landscape Design & Construction http://cherub.squarespace.com/ Re: Terraced wall question 6Feb 27, 2010 10:05 am What size footings are you using? Did that info come from Boral? There would be no hard fast rule due to soil types and surcharge loads. Spoke to my concreting guy, if the 2 walls are further enough apart and out of the zone of influence of each other then they are considered 2 separate walls. Given this he said a 500 deep 300 wide footing with box mesh and starter bars would suffice. Just need confirmation on the distance apart. Re: Terraced wall question 8Feb 27, 2010 10:32 am Think you would be better confirming with a engineer, I have two retaining wall details in front of me for two different jobs and footing widths are 700 mm wide x 250 mm deep with a 450 mm deep toe for an 800 mm high retaining wall. Two layers of mesh with starter bars tied to bottom layer. Landscape Design & Construction http://cherub.squarespace.com/ Thank you again Simeon.. I will call my certifier for that. Have a good day 4 5143 thank you! do we need to get this or our builder before we commence new build on the block? 2 10404 You can really use anything you want the main consideration would be how it looks once painted/finished - or the look you want.
