Browse Forums Outdoor Living 1 Feb 16, 2010 7:35 pm Hi, Our inground pool has a white pool pipe in the side of its concrete wall with a termination cap on the end. I was hoping to enable this pipe as an connection point for our pool's vacuum cleaner. I was hoping for a few opinions if this was a simple matter of clearing the concrete from the pipe? and how best to go about it, if at all? On the outside of the pool, underneath the concrete lip you can see the pipe. It looks like this; http://users.tpg.com.au/srkh//underCONCRETElip.JPG On the inside of the pool there is no trace of the pipe at all. http://users.tpg.com.au/srkh//insidepool.JPG any idea's would be great. thanks, Steve Re: Commissioning an unused water pipe in pool wall 2Feb 16, 2010 10:44 pm Hmmm ... who did the pool? They should have the plumbing open for the plumbers to fit pumps, filters etc. They should just be able to punch through a hole... But it looks finished ... and that doesn't sound right Where you are coming from is where you are going to... Re: Commissioning an unused water pipe in pool wall 3Feb 17, 2010 1:34 pm Our pool was here when we arrived. It was made by a company called pool haven from memory. The pool is fully functional - it went in, in 1978 accordingly. This pipe was discovered during a clean up, and its only recently that I thought I may be able to use it as we need another outlet from the pool for the baracuda vac. We have the plans for the pool, but it dosent show any plumbing detail, except the hydrostatic valve, and even that looks abstract. steve Re: Commissioning an unused water pipe in pool wall 4Feb 17, 2010 8:00 pm cut the cap off, turn on pool if water comes out then it may be a spare pipe for possible water feature, maybe? if water comes out then you can use it as a vacumm inlet, if it sounds like it is sucking in air then maybe you can use it as long as it goes to the filter basket on not directly to filter, either way in your filter box you may be able to get a lid that fits inside and then you can plug the cleaner into that, remember all tubes etc for cleaner need to be full of water before turning on pump other wise you may get an air lock Da Vinci Outdoor Living Architectural landscaping http://www.davincioutdoor.com Re: Commissioning an unused water pipe in pool wall 5Feb 17, 2010 9:02 pm Hi Davinci, It never crossed my mind that the plumbing would be in the wall of the pool. I did find the plans. Its a new world pool, who, in 1978, were in mona vale road in st ives. The plan dosent show any plumbing detail though. It does say "Plumbing piping to be behind reinforcement and to have min 50 clear cover from soil or air face" - so, I take it the plumbing is in the walls. Im glad I didnt pop the cap and prod it with a bit of rebar! This being the case, it makes using the pipe pretty difficult, as I was hoping for an access point from inside the pool. Bugga. thanks for the info, steve Re: Commissioning an unused water pipe in pool wall 6Feb 19, 2010 7:09 pm 'if water comes out then you can use it as a vacumm inlet' WOOPS should say cant use it!!!! Maybe it is a vac port after all? Tomorrow, ill try drilling a small hole in the exposed pipe to see if much water flows - if not, ill cut it off and see where it goes. If it is a usable, a jandy valve will automate between skimmer and vac! .. fingers crossed. steve Re: Commissioning an unused water pipe in pool wall 9Mar 13, 2010 6:51 pm Today I drilled a small hole in the end cap - not much came out. So I drilled a larger hole in the end cap - just a few drops. So I braved the makita, and cut it off. A lot of water rushed out - then stopped. This is what I found - http://users.tpg.com.au/srkh//poolpic.JPG .. thats looks pretty fine to me! An automatic vac sounds just like the ticket for this over worked pool manager. Ill order a jandy and plumb it into the pad. Next step is to get a pilot hole in there and prepare the pool with an opening and a safety vac flip cap. Steve --> Here's a quick weekend update. I drilled the hole! http://users.tpg.com.au/srkh//drill.JPG This gives me the dead centre of the pipe and its cap so I can prepare the opening pool side after the plumbing has gone in. This is all done lovingly by hand - (no power tools obviously) ... and plugged it! - http://users.tpg.com.au/srkh//plugged.JPG and now we have one parked vac port. Ive ordered the PN12 pressure pipe and should have it in next week. I bought the Intelliflo VS3050 and it works well, but have a problem set up, maybe you can advise. My pool chlorinator is the type that has a digital timer, and normally the pump plugs in to this so that the chlorinator and pump come on together. When they put my VS3050 in they said it was too many amps or something, and needed its own power supply, which it now has.Now I need two timers, in synch, one for pump, and the chlorinator one... How do you get your pump to run in synch with the chlorinator? Thanks Mark Re: Commissioning an unused water pipe in pool wall 12Sep 18, 2011 10:20 pm Steve, have you had any problems running the US intelliflo on our Australian power supply over the last year? Mark, Where did you get your intelliflo and how much did you pay for it? I'm looking to get one with the SVRS function but I'm not sure whether to get it from the states or not.
