We'd be standing around, waiting for them to finish their chit chats so we could ask questions and they would completely ignore us - an older person/couple would come and they would stop in their tracks and help them Custom European Cabinets - Melbourne Kitchen Specialist PM for business details as website currently being updated! Our Crazy Owner Builder Journey! Re: Pool & Spa Expo 3Jan 30, 2010 7:04 pm That's terrible. I hate being treated like that. It was the opposite for us today though, we had too many people being too helpful, we just wanted to look around.... ending up buying spa though Talked the guy down another $500 off the exhibition price. Very excited! Re: Pool & Spa Expo 5Jan 31, 2010 12:34 am Bam Most of the pool builders (in concrete) subcontract the work out. Where you are coming from is where you are going to... Re: Pool & Spa Expo 8Jan 31, 2010 7:00 am We went, and found it a waste of time. Not a lot on offer as it seems not a lot of companies attend (for example, there was only one type of finishing product on display being quartzon). There weren't many equipment manufacturers there, mainly pool builders. You get way more ideas and assistance via the internet. It would be a good show if you want to buy a spa however, there were a lot on display. $30 for two of us to get in, and $12 parking could have bought me a slab Blog is now up - http://www.jbdave.blogspot.com/ Re: Pool & Spa Expo 9Jan 31, 2010 7:39 am jbdave $30 for two of us to get in, and $12 parking could have bought me a slab Show was great for us, we'd done a heap research first, knew what type of spa we were after, so we were just looking for a bargain... not that we actually planned to buy one this show, we were going to wait until the next show... oh and info on glass pool fencing... which there was a handful of those guys there. Re: Pool & Spa Expo 10Jan 31, 2010 10:48 am That's really annoying, we've just bought a spa (although it hasn't been delivered yet) and now we're shopping for a fencing solution. I'm not going to drop everything and rush in there now though, but I would have liked to know about this earlier. I've probably contacted every pool fencing supplier in Melbourne in the last week, and no one mentioned this! How are you coping with the process of council building approval? That's another thing that came as a nasty shock. We're still kicking ourselves for not doing all of our homework before rushing out and buying the spa, rookie mistake!! We're still kicking ourselves for not doing all of our homework before rushing out and buying the spa, rookie mistake!! Restrictions sounds a little daunting at first glance. But if you understand them, and do everything by the book, then it's a fairly simple process. We plan to use our boundary fence between us and our neighbour as one of the fences around the spa... but the railings by luck are on our side of the fence... so there's no chance of climbing up from their side... what we haven't done is just out of courtesy told our neighbour we'll be getting a spa but hey, their house is set back quite far from that boundary... My dad is a building surveyor and will be issuing the permit... so we wont have to deal direct with council Re: Pool & Spa Expo 14Jan 31, 2010 1:13 pm Aaron & Erin mishb How are you coping with the process of council building approval? My dad is a building surveyor and will be issuing the permit... so we wont have to deal direct with council Lucky you! The council guy I spoke to mentioned getting a surveyor but wasn't very specific or helpful actually. I don't have a problem with the safety requirements, just the whole process of the application, apparently 3 sets of plans are needed? I'm a bit in the dark about this, and it's frankly ridiculous for a simple fence!! Do you know how I would find a surveyor who would do it for us? 2 sides of our spa area are high brick wall so we only have to fence 2 sides, it's about 6 metres linear, but I've had quotes of $3500 +. ulp: Re: Pool & Spa Expo 15Jan 31, 2010 1:21 pm Where abouts are you? I can see if Dad can recommend anyone close to you. Are the two brick walls just brick walls? No windows? I'm not sure about 3 sets of drawings? I know the permit must include details of the type and location of the barriers, fences, gates, doors, windows, latches, catches, self-closing devices and flyscreens and the location of the spa. Might have to get some more info out of dad... I think we're looking at about the same as you... 6m of glass fencing. I've even tried looking on ebay for DIY fencing, and some are quite reasonable at around $120-$180 p/m. My only worry is getting the dimensions 100% correct, and the gate aswell. For piece of mind I'd rather pay someone... they can come out and quote, then it's made to size, and you're guaranteed they know what they're doing... well hopefully!!! Re: Pool & Spa Expo 16Jan 31, 2010 1:33 pm Glen Eira council area, if he knows someone in the area, that would be great. Yes, he said something about 3 plans, a site plan, an elevation plan and a safety plan, plus all the specifications of the spa and the fence. No windows in the brick walls, one of them is the back of the garage and the other is a side wall (back of something on the neighbour's side). Let me know how your quotes go, and I will too, if I get a reasonable one next week I will let you know who it was. I have had two quotes for an inground 9x4 pool, including fully tiled, coping, solar heating, cleaning equip, lights. We are leaving excavated material on site. Electricals, council fees, fencing not included. Quotes so far are $50-555k. Not impressed. Was hoping for $40k. 3 3554 Hi everyone, Looking for some advise.
