The measurements are: Alfresco = 2340mm x 5280mm Deck = 3090mm x 8632mm There would be a 1m gap between the side of the deck to the fence, can I build the deck all the way to the fence if I wanted to? The whole area under the roof line of the Alfresco will be slab, the rest will be dirt. Hope this helps Current status: Busy making the house our home Built PD Francis 29 on our 576m2 block at Reflections in Tarneit Reflections Estate Thread Our Build Thread Re: Help with decking 23Feb 25, 2010 12:24 pm What is the level difference between house slab and outdoor slab. Landscape Design & Construction http://cherub.squarespace.com/ Re: Help with decking 24Mar 06, 2010 7:29 pm The Alfresco slab is 150mm lower than the rest of the house Current status: Busy making the house our home Built PD Francis 29 on our 576m2 block at Reflections in Tarneit Reflections Estate Thread Our Build Thread Re: Help with decking 25Mar 07, 2010 6:49 am As you only have 150 mm clearance the only way to approach this situation would be to have bearers/ledger the same level as the joists. You can use 90 x 45 mm MGP10 treated pine for your timbers, these will span 1500 mm, So you have a ledger attached along the house, a bearer parallel 1500 mm from that and another at the exterior. Between these lay the joists perpendicular to the bearers at 450 mm centers Fix these using joist hangers so they are flush with bearers. Where the bearers are over concrete these can be glued and fixed with threaded rod, over dirt use post supports concreted in holes. these are supported every 1500 mm. Deck spacing no less than 3 mm Landscape Design & Construction http://cherub.squarespace.com/ Re: Help with decking 26Nov 06, 2012 3:09 pm This has not been easy to read, but it seems that you only have 150 mm clearance to the Finished Floor Level of the alfresco slab? If you need to use timber bearers, then you need 150 mm clearance under the bearer. That means that the Finished Floor Level of that deck (if using bearers and joists in combination on the same level) will be higher than the alfresco, say the bearers were 190mm, then with 19 mm decking you will end up 190 + 19 = 209 mm higher than the concrete slab for the alfresco. If you put 19 mm decking onto the slab, then the height difference is 190 mm or in other words, the depth of the bearer. You cannot build up 190mm because the difference in the two slabs is 150 mm? (By the way, the rules are maximum riser of 190 mm and minimum 115 mm) Why not extend the slab at the same height and then finish both off on the same level? need more information. cheers Re: Help with decking 27Nov 28, 2012 10:16 am We put in a spotted gum deck with the screws counter set, it is more work and cost over the nails(pin things) but looks so much better. I kind of like the look of the screws so I'm not sure why you would want to cover them up. Hi, as per the subject. Does anyone have any recommendations for the best value decking oil (Bunning is close to where I live) for a treated pine deck? Thanks 0 10940 Use a product like Equisol's Vitalise to clean the deck then coat with a penetrating timber oil. It will look 10 years younger and add value to your home.
