Browse Forums Outdoor Living 1 Dec 31, 2009 6:16 pm Hello, I have a couple of simple questions regarding a pergola (6.5m x 2m) I am currently building outo f treated pine. 1) What should I use for fixing the battens (70 x 35) to my rafters (90 x 45). I have seen the batten screws with the female hex-head but they seem a little over kill, not to mention expensive. Are there any other viable alternatives? If I use batten screws, should I pre-drill the holes? 2) The roofing will be corrugated iron. I have seen type-17 screws ("roof zips") with neoprene washers and they seem the way to go. Do I need to pre-drill the roofing, the batten, or both, or neither ? Any help is appreciated. Re: Fixing roof to pergola 2Jan 07, 2010 7:34 pm it depends on the wind loading, but I would stick with batton screws (galvanised for treated pine) they are great screws to work with and worth every penny. you do not need to pre drill through treated pine. I'll look into different shower heads and ask the plumber about some engineering and see what he says.
