Browse Forums Outdoor Living 1 Nov 14, 2009 10:51 am Hi all, I am about to clean my deck off and give it a bit of maintenance. I know that I cannot apply decking oil (Cabots) under 10degrees, and if I remember correctly I should not apply it in direct sunlight. But I was wondering about after the sun has started to drop? The temp should drop to about 23-24 by this time, and out of direct sunlight, I tinkk I might be OK?? I know it takes 8 hours to dry, and 18 hours for a recoat (which I wont need). Any thoughts?? Adrian B Re: Re-oiling a deck - Temperature v sunlight 2Nov 14, 2009 5:14 pm Sounds like the best time. You will get better life out of better products than the decking oil. Traditional oils are evaporated by the sun and also absorb dirt. Water-based decking oils such as Intergrain Ultradeck (better version of Cabots Aquadeck) would give you much better life. If only I had used water based in the start........ BTW the CAbots help line was very very helpful, and answeed my call on a Saturday as well.
