I have a temporary fence enclosure for my dog, while not a large dog she manages to squeeze through the dog wire. I have patched up bit by bit with chicken wire on the inside of the dog wire, and tied in to the bottom of the dog wire. I have used pegs as well in places. But I have only enclosed about 50 sq m, not 5 acres. Maybe you need to run an electric wire along it? I think it totalled something like $500-600 all up (@ $80 each time). They only came to realise what was actually happening by chance. there was no way he'd believed it if he hadn't seen it with his own eyes. They ended up extending the height a little more and putting a temporary lower fence around the higher one, about a metre in front. just so the delight couldn't get a run up. I ask because I'm currently in a very similar situation. We have a border collie and have recently fenced our pack paddock which is about 1 acre. It is fenced with dog wire and also has 2 foot of bird wire as it is also the chook run. We put the dog in this paddock when we go out as the rest of our property is not dog fenced, it is just 4 wire strand fenced. Anyway, he gets out. I looked for holes where he has dug under but couldn't find any. So I had to hide and watch him get out. And believe it or not he gets out through the dog wire at the 2 foot high mark above the bird wire. To look at the wire and the dog you would say there is no way he could get through, but he does. He is bigger than a normal sized kelpie, so your dog certainly could get out through the wire, unless he is a very big kelpie. Hopefully if you sort that issue out, she won't figure out she can go through as well Friends of ours did their 5 acres with that invisible fencing stuff. Where the dog wears a collar that vibrates when they go too close to the boundary. they did the whole place for under 1k. Works perfectly. It is fantastic, the dogs don't go near the fence, it just requires some effort in the initial training period. For 2 dog collars and to fence 1 acre it cost around $700.
