Browse Forums Outdoor Living 1 Oct 07, 2009 7:33 pm We have just completed our decking to entrance area and are wondering whether to give it a light sand prior to oiling. What type of finish have other homeone members with Merbau decking have - any suggestions? braveheart Re: Does Merbau decking require sanding? 2Oct 09, 2009 11:45 am The only spots I sanded before nailing were the joins, just so there were no splinter issues. The only othre task would be to ensure your nails were well homed or punched below timber height. Bst way waws to walk around with a hammer and bare feet. You will feel nails taht are a little high. As for finish there are several brands out there but generally two types. Oil based and water based. The oil based ones aremore of a stain, and really bring ou he coor. Suggest you do a search on the forum, or have a chat at your local hardware store. Adrian B Hi, as per the subject. Does anyone have any recommendations for the best value decking oil (Bunning is close to where I live) for a treated pine deck? Thanks 0 10970 Use a product like Equisol's Vitalise to clean the deck then coat with a penetrating timber oil. It will look 10 years younger and add value to your home.
