Browse Forums Outdoor Living 1 Sep 29, 2009 9:09 pm Ever since the Better Half and I decided on the house we wanted to build we were going to include a ceiling fan in the al fresco area, but now we are beginning to wonder if it's worth the money to buy and install. The al fresco area has 31 course ceiling and I am unsure whether we'd even notice if the fan was on or not. I'd love to hear from forum members who have a ceiling fan in their al fresco and whether they feel it makes a difference. Cheers Lance Re: Ceiling fans in an al fresco area ... worthwhile? 2Sep 29, 2009 9:12 pm Hey Lance I'm not exactly sure what '31 course cieling' means... but we will be having a fan in our alfresco. I've been told it's a must- not so much for keeping you cool or anything, but maintaining a slight breeze keeps the flies away. That's gotta be a good idea then I reckon Re: Ceiling fans in an al fresco area ... worthwhile? 3Sep 29, 2009 9:46 pm Felistopher Hey Lance I'm not exactly sure what '31 course cieling' means... but we will be having a fan in our alfresco. And Lance we also have a 31 course ceiling (meaning 31 courses of bricks from floor to ceiling), we are thinking the fans will be great for getting rid of any bbq smoke Re: Ceiling fans in an al fresco area ... worthwhile? 5Oct 03, 2009 3:17 pm So is 31 courses high, low or what? I suppose I could go outside and count ours.... We have 2740mm ceilings inside the house, and the step-down to the al fresco adds about another 150mm, so that's a decent height. We have a ceiling fan and it definitely is good for removing bbq smoke and seems to help keep flies at bay. On a hot day the breeze is lovely too.... I suppose it depends on your climate and how much use you're going to get from the area. Ours was included in a promotional package, but from memory, I don't think the normal cost was all that much. Re: Ceiling fans in an al fresco area ... worthwhile? 6Oct 03, 2009 5:00 pm love ours! Even if it is to keep the flies & mozzie's away. When it is hot (and not hot enough to run the aircon) - turn them on & they keep the hot air from entering the house. Million other reasons! For a cheap addition - they are worth every cent (IMO). I suppose I could go outside and count ours.... 28 courses of bricks (floor to ceiling) is standard, 31 course is a raised ceiling. Must be a WA thing to describe ceiling heights this way Thanks to everyone for their input! Re: Ceiling fans in an al fresco area ... worthwhile? 8Oct 03, 2009 8:00 pm I'm getting one, its good in summer to circulate the air on a hot day, and good also in winter - apparently you put them in reverse and it will circulate the hot air from a heater to warm your entire alfresco. I've been told it keeps flies away also, not sure if it works but can't be a bad thing!! ICK So glad the building is over, never again. Loooove our house, but still not quite sure it was worth all of the stress they put us through!
