Browse Forums Outdoor Living 1 Sep 01, 2009 9:30 pm Has anyone had a crack at this using the ebay glass sellers. theres one selling 1.8 m spans with spigots for 300 something or 180 or so per m including fittings. If you have is it easy to do? Is delivery expensive (melb to gold coast)? Would anyone also know how the fully frameless stuff is done where it's buried underground? I's assume it's like a shower one but deeper with an aluminum channel and some grout to support it. It actually seems lik you could do it cheaper this way as it's much simpler than framed glass, except it has to be thicker so the glass would be more expensive... Re: Diy glass pool fencing 3Sep 01, 2009 10:32 pm http://cgi.ebay.com.au/FULLY-FRAMELESS- ... 286.c0.m14 I emailed the guy and talked to him today he said he could email back in 24 hours. I think these spigot things are over priced in the retail market, cause alot of these glass distributors seem to import the stuff from china. I reckon they'remaking a big markup on the spigots, but the channel in my mind seems cheaper as its just a bit of metal, cant cost that much. and some places the glass is quite cheap so if you could diy it it'lld look better and be cheaper. Re: Diy glass pool fencing 4Sep 01, 2009 10:40 pm Hi, if you look at any of the glass fencing website you can find out about installation. This is a link to Prestige fencing who we bought our semi-frameless fence from. My husband and I installed it, took a few hours and was an easy job to do. It doesn't show the channel set installation but it does show the other types. http://www.prestigepoolfencing.com.au/d ... ide-sf.htm We found Prestige on ebay and I contacted them direct, our price was pretty good. Delivery from NSW to Melbourne was only a few hundred dollars. Buying off ebay only becomes a problem if you need a different size panel, if you have 5m or 10m or 12m etc you'll be right but we needed 5.3m so had to have the panels made to size as I wanted them to be even. I'm really thinking of frameless though but the spigot thing and the hire of the core driller seems a pain. looks like yours are drilled into the deck so I wonder if I could just do that with some dynabolt like screw holding the spigot in. Re: Diy glass pool fencing 6Sep 03, 2009 5:48 am Yep ours are bolted onto the deck, because we were installing it ourselves we wanted the easiest installation. Plus the semi frameless was a third of the price of frameless Have you searched google or You Tube to see about the spigot installation? this page has all the info for install of core drilled ones. Haven't seen any videos about it yet though Re: Diy glass pool fencing 10Sep 05, 2009 5:42 pm I spoke with someone from Glass Boundaries here in Perth on this very issue. (Yes I know the owners) One thing I learned was there is some very big differences in glass quality and that is a big factor in the cost of the fencing. While they were not too cool with the DIY fence packages they do acknowledge that it is a viable alternative when it maybe outside the budget of many. Just do your research, find out where the glass is made and that it meets Australian standards. research who the glass manufacturer is and make sure this isn't going to turn out a nightmare. They really weren't too sure what happens when you need a customised section. Nearly everyone of the jobs they do (and every other glass fence mob) has a large portion of customised glass that is cut to size required for that job. They are thinking about doing installs of these packages if it is a bit outside your skill level but they wouldn't do any old package either. They'd only think about it after seeing the product first. Buyer beware overall. *Oh and a mate of mine had his done (not by Glass Boundaries) and they used some solar lights in the caps on the posts. Looks great at night. awesome idea Re: Diy glass pool fencing 11Sep 07, 2009 12:14 am The ones on ebay have this in the text description "The panels are all Australian Standard approved (AS/NZS 2208:1996) and have the standard marking etched descretly in the bottom of each panel." I think the core drill method would be heaps stronger but alot harder because you have to align and brace everything while it sets, plus you have to get the drill, mark everything out etc... whereas the drill in ones you could just dynabolt in and be done with it, provided the surface you're going into is level enough. Re: Diy glass pool fencing 12Sep 07, 2009 12:50 am and solid enough Can't screw this stuff into decking or into a paved area. Re: Diy glass pool fencing 13Sep 09, 2009 9:17 am I found a couple of ather websites which have information on in ground glazing.
Apparently you just get the concreter (if you are concreting) to put a channel in "Channel Fixed Systems Firstly, the depth of the channel should be at least 150mm whether the finished height of your frameless glass is 1000mm for balustrades or 1200mm for pool fences. Glass should be 12mm toughened with polished edges. If pouring a new concrete slab, the use of 100x50mm square foam is recommended to form a glazing channel. Timber beam is sometimes used but the removal of the timber from the set concrete is often very difficult and messy. It is recommended to seek the advice of a licensed builder for the exact process of laying a channel." The second website has some pictures. With this in mind, does anyone know any glass suppliers in the brisbane, gold coast area who sell 12mm toughened pool glass at reasonable rates. I got a quote back from an ebay seller which was reasonable, the glass including spigots was 329 for a 1.8 m width and http://www.afgi.com.au/prod_hintstips.htm http://www.acmeglassandmirrors.com.au/p ... fences.php If this is the case the only cost other than the foam, and the non shrink grout would be the glass, which removes alot in the cost of spigots, you just have to have deeper glass, like 150 mm taller than normal, or you could get pieces of 1.4 *1.2 and bury it 150mm deep. http://cgi.ebay.com.au/POOL-FENCING-FRA ... 286.c0.m14 a guy in WA is selling glass and using this as a marketing tool for selling just the glass, however on his ebay page he doesn't actually have pictures of the glass in channel, but rather in spigots, and he gives no useful instructions on how the channel glazing is done. I got a price of 329 including stainless spigots from one guy for 1.8 m, postage from melb was 175 crating cost plus 255 freight (455 kg) (4 pieces of 1.4 m= 1156, 1 piece 1.8=329, 2* 850mm gate kits=590 glass includes spigots for that price). Freight cost would be less without the spigots as well as they weigh abour 3-5 kg each. I got a quote for semi frameless diy which was only 100 dollars cheaper than this so it's not a bad price. I've had another quote for glass at 142 per l/m plus 140 per spigot plus 142 per m for install, works out to like 482 per m!!! And these guys say they'll beat any written quote by 10% and will supply for diy. Thing is they drill the glass so probably wont match a quote on friction clamps but if they did that would be a pretty big price cut. With this in mind does anyone know anyone who sells toughened safety glass 12mm thick on the gold coast or in brisbane for reasonable prices. Re: Diy glass pool fencing 14Sep 09, 2009 9:44 am http://images.google.com.au/imgres?imgu ... 7AO7hNmYBg just found another two with cross section images of in ground stuff http://www.afgi.com.au/prod_hardwareinfo.htm Need to remove glass panel out of concrete without wrecking the glass to get the spa room in, any recommendations on how to do that.
