Browse Forums Outdoor Living 1 Aug 30, 2009 10:37 am Well we have just moved in to our new home and are dreaming about what we would like to do. First stop is the kitchen and the deck. There is already a deck on the side of the house. Our thoughts are to extend this another metre, as well as turn the stairs at the front of the house around so you can either walk onto the deck or back to the front door. As well as this, I want stairs at the back of the deck into the backyard to allow the dog up. Our thoughts at this stage are to have gates at the top of each set of stairs. My only concern is security wise having the front stairs leading straight onto the deck. Should we be thinking about putting some sort of timber panelling and door so people can't see straight onto the deck / door can be locked? Keep in mind, the fencing situation will completely change. There will be no fence on the property line, only from the front of the house. Also, we're hoping to do most of the deck ourselves. Hoping it will be easier as the general structure is there, although we will need to replace the floor. I appreciate your input. Given that you are looking at a fair height, not to mention a fair amount of work in attaching the new deck to the house, you will also need structural engineering checks and permits even before you can go to council. Give concil a call tos ee what will be needed, and then get some quotes, making sure they itemise tasks Adrian B Re: Your thoughts on our deck plans... 4Sep 01, 2009 5:47 pm we were going to put a deck in our house until we found out we would need a sturtual engineer at a cost of up $800 decice to go with something else.We were told by council would need alot of footing could costs alot so you will need to look at these things first finished building 40 square home on 5 acres with perry homes.working on the landscaping just finished pool deck with ://forum.homeone.com.au/viewtopic.php?f=31&t=2217 Re: Your thoughts on our deck plans... 5Sep 01, 2009 9:19 pm I agree with Adrian, unless you have prior experience building decks etc. I would look at professional help. I dare say it may be easier to rip the old stucture down and build from new. Re: Your thoughts on our deck plans... 7Sep 02, 2009 5:28 pm yes I fine its best to talk to council first before doing anything even if it is a builder etc.We have been told lots of storys over the years and then when ring council to find out the information given buy builders etc was not always right in our case anyway I am sure there are many builders not like this finished building 40 square home on 5 acres with perry homes.working on the landscaping just finished pool deck with ://forum.homeone.com.au/viewtopic.php?f=31&t=2217 Re: Your thoughts on our deck plans... 8Sep 20, 2009 6:50 am Ok new plan! We have decided it's not worth extending at this stage, as we are spending a fortune on the kitchen and don't think we'll be able to afford it. So the new plan is to just rip up the old floor, and lay new floorboards and railings as well as put on a roof. Hopefully will end up being a similar look to what we were after, just not as wide. Were struck with: Colorbond Ironstone Grey roof and cream windows. What color should we render and paint the garage door to tone down the cream windows?
