Browse Forums Outdoor Living 1 Jul 14, 2009 3:18 pm Hi guys, This is my 1st post on this forum so plz let me know if question i ask makes sense or not. I live in Point Cook,VIC and recently moved to my new house which has around 5.5m x 4.8m of concreated courtyard. I want to build something like a veranda or patio over this and need some suggestions . I have a budget of around 5-7Ks and would like to know what options i have. I am not interested in Flat roofs as that will make this area look very congested , so something like a gable roof or hip roof would be a good idea. I need to know how much would this cost and any recommended builders from where i can quotes to start with. Cheers, Re: Veranda\Patio Options 2Jul 24, 2009 10:48 pm Hi namz You can get kit type gable pergolas from Bunnings. They have a booklet that you can get from their website called Special Orders - Outdoor structures & garden sheds and it lists the size of the kits available and the price. They can be done DIY or I think they can help to find a contractor to install it for you. From memory I think that size will cost you about $4-5k. We decided against a gable type because we didn't want the beams underneath and so are getting a pergola with an angled roof (to let more winter sun in but still keep the summer sun out) and no cross beams by using a Laserlite roofing product called Makrolon. Ours will be 5.4m x 4.5m and is only costing $2900 and we are going to install it ourselves. We are using a company called Softwoods which are only in SA but I sure there are similar companies in Vic. Perhaps check out the Laserlite website as it might list their stockists which would help. They also have a good gallery to give you ideas. I had this fellow build my pergola, and he was spot on for reliability, service, and most important ... price. His details are - Alex's Pergolas 0414 540 800 and he is based in Melb. You can tell him that Mark from "MICA Lighting" gave you his details ... you may even get a discount Re: Veranda\Patio Options 5Jul 28, 2009 2:32 pm MICA Hi there Namz, I had this fellow build my pergola, and he was spot on for reliability, service, and most important ... price. How big was the pergola, and how much did it end up costing? I'm in Melbourne too... but won't have my house built for another six months or so, but I'm just trying to get options for when I'm ready. I'm only after a smaller pergola - say 3x4m. Re: Veranda\Patio Options 6Jul 28, 2009 3:07 pm I guess it all depends on the size, the base surface, the roof type, etc. When i initially got prices, some tradesman took into consideration so many veriables, so i'm sure the size is not the only determinate. That being said, he was really well priced, in comparison to others, and very punctual. But, when you are ready, give hime a call, and make sure he still has a sharp pencil After some ideas on making our patio kid friendly . Currently we have exposed aggregate.
