Re: Photos of timber decking needed!!! 6May 18, 2009 1:55 pm Here are some pics of our deck - nearly finished. We are just giving the timber time to leach out the oils then we will give it a light sand and an oil. http://i163.photobucket.com/albums/t315/DaisySparkle/deck1.jpg http://i163.photobucket.com/albums/t315/DaisySparkle/deck2.jpg Re: Photos of timber decking needed!!! 7May 18, 2009 5:29 pm Tip: use gal nails, & don't punch them, down so you end up with a 'well' at the head where the water will sit.... Life's too short too drink bad wine Re: Photos of timber decking needed!!! 8May 18, 2009 6:18 pm Hi Hammerhead, DH fixed all the boards using http://www.deck-max.com.au/. It means that there are no screws or nails visible so it looks more streamlined. The dents you see on the seats will be filled with merbu "plugs" and chiselled/sanded to level so hopefully we shouldn't have any water pooling like it is currently after the showers over the weekend. I recommend the 140mm x 25mm boards. It gives the deck that extra added feel of strength. An oil before and after summer with Intergain Natures Timber Oil will also give your decking that extra life. Good luck Re: Photos of timber decking needed!!! 12May 19, 2009 2:37 pm Hi Clath, Thanks. Yes, we did the wall - wanted to look at something nicer than a grey fence. Cheers. Sorry should have asked before Their wall tiles i presume? where did you purchase them/ Ive have similar color steppers, dont want to copy you , but think those colors in your wall would match my brick color Re: Photos of timber decking needed!!! 14May 20, 2009 8:18 am They are wall tiles from: Lifestiles 9/ 205 Mornington-Tyabb Rd Mornington VIC 3931 ph: (03) 5973 6913 They were easy to do too! FYI - the wall was made in blueboard, then finished with a render paint. It's just what we are wanting to do at our place. How did you do the planter boxes? That is, did you build them out of timer? If timber did you line them with anything before filling with soil? What about the frame for the wall, anything special for that? Thanks heaps Re: Photos of timber decking needed!!! 16Aug 18, 2009 4:59 pm Damonc - husband built the wall out of blueboard, on a treated pine frame. Built the raised bed/seating out of treated pine sleepers, covered them in merbu, lined the beds with black plastic (put lots of drainage holes in the bottom), filled the very bottom with polystyrene pieces we helped ourselves to from a hopper out the back of a homemaker centre (ahem, gross I know, but made the bed lighter in weight, and cheaper to fill) and then with quality dirt and the top 20cm is the $13 a bag dirt (hence happy plants, well... apart from 1 that is decidedly brownish)... and Bobs our uncle. Actually he's not, his name is Barry. I have lots of step by step photos somewhere that I can post if you like. Start to finish. Here's another pic of it. The kanga paws are just starting their 1st flower. Yeah!!! http://i163.photobucket.com/albums/t315/DaisySparkle/deck-1.jpg Re: Photos of timber decking needed!!! 17Aug 18, 2009 5:56 pm Thanks for the info. That's very helpful. I'd love to see some progress shots of the construction, but only if it's not too much trouble. I think I can see lights in the garden bed, is that correct? Did you run ultra-low voltage for those or is it regular mains power? cheers damon Re: Photos of timber decking needed!!! 18Aug 21, 2009 1:35 pm DaisySparkle18 Damonc - husband built the wall out of blueboard, on a treated pine frame.
