Not unheard of but not too common. They are generally used in reno's etc.

I'm not really sure what you mean.... but if you go to the Porter Davis site and go to the Newtown home... that shows a facade called Noosa and that has brackets under the eaves. Is that what you mean? Kind of a modern take.

if I want to do a screen shot I hit control + print screen then open up paint and paste it in. Then save.

It was hard to find a picture of what I had in mind.
Mike, that's the sort of thing I'm talking about.
Maybe I don't see these in new homes because a lot of new homes don't have eaves.

Update from me! Couldn't find the trimmer - not sure if there isn't one simply because the eave is so narrow. Went ahead with the spring toggles and it all worked out…
