Browse Forums Outdoor Living 1 Apr 15, 2009 12:52 pm Hi, everyone. I just bought my first home last week. I am just too happy to say a word. I am planning to do some work at backyard. Would you plz give me some advice on my plan? OK, let's have a look with the floor plan at first(I draw it in Google SketchUp, tough work). BTW, I forgot to point out the direction in this plan. The downward is actually north. Basically, my house has a very small "L" shape backyard. Area a is currently covered by large, yellow brick (shown in pic). Area B and C have a small brick path (shown in pic). Q1: I would like to build a deck and a veranda above the deck. Following are my options Option 1: get rid of the yellow brick in Area a. Put deck and pergola on area ABCD and add veranda above all the deck. I need lots of money to do that. Worth it? Option 2: leave area a aside. Put deck on area BCD and make sure that the heights of deck is as same as yellow bricks. Then Put a veranda on ABCD. may not looks consistent. a cheaper option. Option 3: as same as 2, but the veranda only covers BCD. Will it looks stupid? Option 4: ? what else can I do? Q2: I am Chinese and I love cooking Chinese food. You know what I mean. I need a outdoor kitchen for some kinds of cooking. I am not going to spend 10k to build a full functional outdoor kitchen. What I want is only a BBQ rack with a side burner. Or maybe just a cook top. Then I would like to put a range hood above the fireplace. That's what I am thinking now. I need you advices. OK. question time. Q2.1: Do I need to buy a outdoor expensive range hood as I will put it under veranda, but above the cook tops(???? why I am saying that). Q2.2: Do I need to add a flue to the range hood? The answer probably is yes. Where should I put my cook top and range hood? Give me some suggestions plz..... Q2.3: As the position of range hood should be fixed, do I need to build a permanent BBQ rack? Or fix it on a timber box (just like a higher box chair at your back yard) Q2.4: Do I need to add a gas tap near my cook top? Or bottle gas is ok? Q2.5: I may need to build deck, build veranda, add flue, fix the rang hood, wiring the electrical wire, wiring the gas pipeline. That's really so much work. What should be the order of all these works? Q3: My garage does not have an internal access. I would like to add one. The wall between the garage and the study is plaster board, but there are some timber structures in side. Is it safe to break the wall and add an internal door? How much will it cost me? End of all questions. Appreciates and more appreciates. Thank you all who can read this post. I do have terrible grammar mistakes, but at least I have fixed nearly all spelling errors. Plz forgive me. Thanks agagin.
