But we're tossing up whether to simply pave the area, or have some sort of low decking out there. We saw these pics on the web the other day and thought it might look cool out the back. But would it look silly if that then went to paving for the rest of it? I'm thinking it might look a bit bitzy. It'd look a whole lot neater with decking the whole way across. I agree that the little bit of paving might look out of place also if the paving is at a different height from the decking (which unless you were very careful sounds likely?) then that space might be a bit unusable. I think a deck the whole way, with some raised planter boxes like in the last pic in your first post.
