Browse Forums Outdoor Living 1 Feb 22, 2009 4:36 pm Hi All
We are in the early stages of building a house. We are only at slab stage but I am beginning to worry a little on our Outdoor area/Alfresco. Our contract comes with no flooring at all underneath the roofline. Question - Is concerete essential for a base? At the moment at handover we will have soil only in this area - red soil may I add therefore this now our priority. Do we need concrete to begin with? Or can we lay some crusher dust and underlay and begin building the deck? We would really appreciate your suggestions? I have read a few threads and I can only see concrete areas used as a base. Many Thanks Re: Alfresco Deck Question - We really need some help! 2Feb 22, 2009 5:10 pm You do not need anything under a traditional deck. If you want to do what some are and lay the decking essentially on a cement base then obviously get something poured there, and if you get your builder to do it it'll cost bugger all. Re: Alfresco Deck Question - We really need some help! 3Feb 22, 2009 8:16 pm You don't need to waste money on concrete. Just lay some weed mat over the soil around your footings Re: Alfresco Deck Question - We really need some help! 6Mar 12, 2009 8:27 pm Crusher dust under the deck is the way to go... No need for concrete as it's money you'll never see again...
PnSdreams I also need some help. I've been quoted by our builder $3300 for a 2m x 4m. Is this too expensive? What's that for though? Concrete? Decking? Hardwood? Electrical Engineer... Don't hold that against me... And keen owner builder... Mainly the building part!! I don't think it matters what product it is . That is bloody expensive for any product. Unless you are talking about the cost of the alfresco itself.... Re: Alfresco Deck Question - We really need some help! 8Mar 13, 2009 7:31 pm The $3500 is just for the timber decking itself! Though, at this stage I don't know what sort of material like treated pine or merbau etc Karma - what goes around comes around sooner or later...... do not pay until you are satisfied with workmanship windows require flashing over the head archithrave and up under weatherboards 3 28260 Hi VK, I am now retired however I have stood beside over 300 owner builders in the past 18 years that have successfully built their own homes.
