Browse Forums Outdoor Living 1 Jan 23, 2009 12:51 pm We are reaching the end of our build, in Melbourne, and are looking at constructing a deck under the alfresco area.
What are the requirements for plans and permits and what are the risks of not complying? Would you run the risk? Does anyone know what the rough cost of plans and permits for a low deck of approx 20m2? (Have been inspired by Raff's low deck) Thanks in advance PP Re: Plans and permits 2Jan 23, 2009 6:15 pm Best contact your council and ask, it can vary from one to the next. I believe our council requires a permit if the deck is more than 1m off the ground or over 10 sq m in size... I could have that wrong though.

Re: Plans and permits 3Feb 18, 2009 9:43 pm I checked with our Council today about whether or not we'd need permission for our deck and I was quite pleasantly surprised. Apparently as long as its not more than 1m off the ground, doesnt extend past the existing width of the house, is attached to a single storey dwelling and isnt larger than 40sqm, we dont need permission! The jury is out on whether or not we can have a colorbond roof on it without permission (the woman I spoke to seemed to think it was ok but I'm gonna check further) ... I'll update here when I know for sure. If there have been changes, variations, during construction then the drawings should be revised, the building permit amended and the current, as built drawings given to… 2 4489 Really tight at the top of the stairs- how to get furniture into those rooms? Study books - does anyone really use them these days? Large storage closet would be more functional. 2 6890 Ask the council if there is a chance of getting build over easement exemption. Sometimes easements are unused and 24cm is not all that much. Good luck. And yes any builder… 2 13775 |
