stringybark - (but it can slightly open up) Da Vinci Outdoor Living Architectural landscaping http://www.davincioutdoor.com Re: Decking - Timber options? 7Dec 09, 2008 7:13 pm Do not use Tassie Oak outside, its a mix of low durability soft Aussie hardwoods which are generally suited to indoors.
You really want a durability 1 or 2 timber for outside use and you really can't go past ironbark for decking. I personally dislike merbau and am happy its temporarily unavailable from wholesalers. Some yards have some left and I know of one charging $5.60 per metre for 90x19!! Jarrah is also exspensive, as also suggested I'd be looking at blackbutt, river red gum, yellow stringybark or spotted gum Re: Decking - Timber options? 9Dec 09, 2008 8:29 pm Did you have a preference for blonde, brown or red?? ( timber that is....) Re: Decking - Timber options? 11Dec 10, 2008 5:54 pm av. price for iron bark 135 x 19 retail if you hunt around $11. l/m
trade around $9 odd l/m dependant on quantity for durability and aesthetics i personally dont think anything beats iron bark (queensland) is darker than nsw and is less prone to swelling look on my website under decking pics of iron bark and spotted gum Da Vinci Outdoor Living Architectural landscaping http://www.davincioutdoor.com Re: Decking - Timber options? 12Dec 10, 2008 8:57 pm davinci av. price for iron bark 135 x 19 retail if you hunt around $11. l/m trade around $9 odd l/m dependant on quantity for durability and aesthetics i personally dont think anything beats iron bark (queensland) is darker than nsw and is less prone to swelling look on my website under decking pics of iron bark and spotted gum we sell 136mm x 25mm ironbark for $8.75 per metre, and 86mm x 19mm for $4.45 per metre. The Qld/NSW thing your referring to is in relation to spotted gum, not ironbark - the difference in tone your referring to is possibly due to comparing red ironbark against grey ironbark. We sell both locally sourced ironbark ( dried and run on site) as well as ironbark from Qld and its all the same - I've posted pics of my pergola before. Qld spotted gum is much darker than NSW spotted gum. If using NSW spotted gum decking, its preferrable for it to be treated as it contains mostly sapwood which is very vunerable to borers etc. Also, steer away from wide board decking that is only 19mm thick esp. ironbark as it has a tendancy to cup, esp. if close to the ground. Re: Decking - Timber options? 13Dec 11, 2008 7:03 pm no i was referring to iron bark

We also have 136mm x 32mm mixed hardwood containing Qld Spotted gum, red ironbark and forest redgum on special at the moment for $9.50 per metre. $8.75 per metre for 136mm x 25mm ironbark is a net price for 1 metre or 1000 metres - you would be hard pressed to better it, we sell it into Sydney from the south coast, people pay $200 - $300 freight for us to take it up to site. Hi, as per the subject. Does anyone have any recommendations for the best value decking oil (Bunning is close to where I live) for a treated pine deck? Thanks 0 10974 Engineering timber is certainly a less fuss option, times cheaper to supply and install and better withstands humidity. 1 15923 Use a product like Equisol's Vitalise to clean the deck then coat with a penetrating timber oil. It will look 10 years younger and add value to your home. Visit for… 1 15812 |
