Composite decking choices

So who is the all round winning product

In my book natural timber is the best product. One of the things about composite decking material is that it gets very hot in the sun much hotter than timber, uncomfortable to walk on without shoes.

I have treated pine deck 20 years old and perfectly functional and a 5 year old deck in photo below equally so. Pine deck is natural looking, perfectly functional not as hot to walk on and cheaper.

Should get charged for the deck size, might be wastage but size is size

Agree! Can I take him to fair trading if the disputes getting worse?

I don't know if we can complain to fair trading for this.

What did the quote say exactly?
Did he give a price to do the job or did he give you a metre rate?

We installed Modwood and 5 years later it is split, warped, stained and cracked, ... what a disgraceful product! Their 'warranty' is full of fine print and im thinking anyone who is thinking of installing it - to rethink their decision! im in FNQ and im wanting to replace this mess with a product that I can rely on! Im even wondering if none of these composites are suitable in such extreme/consistent heat ??

Im pleased to read discussions about the similarity of Ekodeck and Modwood and as I was seriously thinking of installing Ekodeck, im wondering if Trex is best for us ... Can i get some professional advice please?

my question is ... Is this stuff not suitable for extreme heat areas like where I live. As far as I can read so far .. no one has had Eko deck down for longer than 5 years...

Your modwood came with a 10/7 year warranty. All the things you mentioned are covered. The only reason that tehy could deny a warranty claim is if it wasnt installed inline with the manufacturer requirements. Coincidentally, most issues arrise from exactly that.

So modwood, ekodeck or trex, if they arent installed correctly, youre going to have issues regardless.

well... not really middle of the boards have cracked and warped.. no where near joins etc. it seems to be worst at areas of 'higher traffic', like it doesnt flex , rather it 'gives way' and cracks ... all ends where it was cut are split.

also, even spare boards that have been leaning agains the house have also split, and they aren't even in full sun. terrible product

This ramp is in full sun, no roof

The main decking gets the sun in the morning but it’s mainly under the roof.

Trying to find photos of the frame underneath it cos I agree, it’s probably installation that makes the difference.

Also, I just want to add, this ekodeck transfers a bit to clothes ie if you have kids that will roll around on it, you may find that the colour transfers to their clothes. But of course, it goes away when said clothes get washed.

if you googled people who have tried to make a warranty claim against Modwood you would get the gist of my laughing at that whole topic ... its riddled with fine print. and at the end of the day, they then admitted its not rated for FNQ... so i have spent $10K on a bad choice - trying to make an environmentally kind choice and paid the price. They offered to replace some of the boards. Why go the expense of having someone reinstall a product that is going to fail!

Why would I google your problem? So basically warranty is voided because not installed to manufacturers guidelines (not rated for FNQ). Got it.

no body mentioned it wasn't rated for FNQ until I contacted Modwood about my issue.

If its not rated for FNQ why would it be available for sale here?

I said if you googled the problems with Modwood claims you would be amazed at how many people who have unsuccessfully tried to claim "warranty" issues.

anyway, the stuff was laid by a professional to the specs available and it failed. OVER...
