Browse Forums Outdoor Living 1 Oct 07, 2020 3:03 pm Hi all, Going to be obtaining some quotes soon to build a 10m x 4m deck off the back of my house and would like to be better prepared in regards to knowing what I should and shouldn’t be doing when having this deck constructed. In regards to deck footings. I plan to steer clear of timber posts set directly in concrete. This leaves me with the option to use concrete posts set in ground or new concrete footings poured and stirrups used to support the deck posts. Which one would be better and last longer? If I were to use stirrups is it better to embed the stirrups in the concrete when wet or bolt the stirrups to the concrete on top when it has set? The decking will be covered by a gable roof. As for the bearers, joists and posts, should I be using hardwood or will treated pine suffice? I plan on laying protective strips over all the subframe to protect it from water. Is there a big difference in pine/hardwood for the frame ie. lifespan? Regards. Hi, as per the subject. Does anyone have any recommendations for the best value decking oil (Bunning is close to where I live) for a treated pine deck?
