Ive been researching the required sizes of materials and keep getting different answers from different sources. So im after some advice. Im looking at using 6 posts. So maximum space between posts would be 2m. Also do i need to use double bearers or not. Thanks for your help. Re: Building a deck 2Jul 28, 2015 12:32 pm I know this doesn't help but the reason why you can not get get a straight answer is because the regulations for sizes goes up to 1 meter off the ground. 1.2m means you now need it designed/signed off by a structural engineer (I think it's a structural engineer). Either way, the council will only except your dimensions for joists/bearers if they comply to heights of 1m. If you are not up for the additional cost, would you consider dropping it to 1m in height off the ground? By the way, as per the regs, it's always double bearers.
