Browse Forums Kitchen Corner 1 Jul 29, 2020 1:41 pm Recently had the kitchen Ceaserstone installed by a kitchen company about 8 months and it was good but recently, I found that there are cracks around the slab edges There are 2 sides. One side seems to have a small gap but the other one seems have hole, uneven that looks like glue or some sort of silicone? Please see the 2 photos below The first one below is the major defect side. I have put 2 different colour circles. The orange indicates the overall, the gap has expanded. The 2 blue colour indicates the glue is someone mislocated in a curve shape https://ibb.co/m5BV13d The second one below is the side where it has a small hole at the bottom which you can see the gap gradually increases a bit more (from the top to bottom) though its not as serious as the first one above where it has a bit of everything https://ibb.co/Ln8GWQh I have tried to contact Ceaserstone company and they ask me to contact the installer but when I called it is already closed temporarily (probably due to covid), so I thought I would come here and see if this is a common issue Your help and advise will be appreciated to fix the problem (hopefully it is simple) PS: By the way, what is that patch affected area called? Is it called kitchen benchtop slab hairline crack or something? Thanks in advance Re: HELP! Kitchen benchtop slab gap line's edge has crack un 2Jul 29, 2020 2:14 pm Look like you've had some movement or the join medium has shrunk. It’s an easy fix under warranty, but of course if the installer is closed you'll have trouble exercising the warranty. Was this a one off job or part of a bigger renovation or house build? Re: HELP! Kitchen benchtop slab gap line's edge has crack un 3Jul 29, 2020 2:47 pm Thanks for the reply The house is old by the way, not sure if it is the movement and is a bit uneven as well The toilet wall edges had white silicone movement, expanded several months ago but shrunk back It was a one off job by kitchen installer, why is that? Re: HELP! Kitchen benchtop slab gap line's edge has crack un 5Jul 30, 2020 9:27 am The stone isn't cracked, the supporting structure has moved. Nothing to serious, scrape it out and clean with thinners, run some new sealant into it, spray with soapy water and remove excess with a flat scraper (kitchen guys used a scrap of laminate) You state an older house, you have to expect movement, not an installation defect Hi Courtney The mitred edges are glued up with epoxy so those little holes and gaps are areas that weren't filled correctly. Silicone is the wrong product to fill them… 2 12926 I hope this help you newhome_24, AS3958.1 is the Ceramic Tile Installation Standard. It specifies the tolerances for the installation of tiles.
