Browse Forums Kitchen Corner 1 Jul 17, 2020 12:36 pm Hi, I've posted this in another forum but through I'd check here as well,, I'm nearing the end of my kitchen renovation and am looking for advice on preparing the substrate for the stonemason to fit the final top. It's a galley style layout, the cabinets are Ikea, (please hold judgement, I've had no issues with these in 2 previous reno's) and I'm going with a 12mm porcelain top. Tricky part is the 200mm overhang on one end on the island, and Ideally I'd like a shadowline around all edges. Advice is I'll need a minimum 16mm substrate to support the 12mm porcelain top on the overhang. I've also found some references to fitting some rebated steel flat bar to be safe. And to add to the 'fun' I'm going with an undermount sink. So far I'm thinking: -first layer 10mm top installed flush with the carcass. -second layer 16mm also flush with the carcass but includes the 200mm overhang (shown as woodgrain in images). -fit side and rear panels flush with the height of the carcass now giving the second layer the effect of being stepped in by aprox 10mm (e.g shadowline). -2 channels pre-cut in the second layer to fit 2x steel flat bar supports for the overhang (est. 800mm long), and 2mm approx rebate section so the undermount sink fits flush in it's cut out. -Stonemason fits 12mm porcelain top inline with side panels giving the shadowline effect. I think this will work but am I overthinking it or is there maybe just an easier way? Excuse the basic SketchUp mock ups, only just started using it to create some reference images. Thanks!
