Browse Forums Kitchen Corner 1 Oct 01, 2008 12:09 pm Hi everyone. This is the kitchen in the home we have just purchased. This is the only line of cabinets we have. It's not too bad and is basically new. I hate the stove and am not fussed on the colours or the overhead cabinets. Or the lino. Ok, I'll stop nitpicking now
My husband is keen for a whole gut and replace job, but we have a limited budget. I just wondered if we could just update this kitchen easily and maybe add an L-shape off on to one of the other walls? Any thoughts? I'm happy with any suggestions Like ⋅ Add a comment ⋅ Pin to Ideaboard ⋅ Re: Can we just update this kitchen? 4Oct 01, 2008 1:24 pm Yes, they aren't very.. modern.. are they. Note also the tenants wonderful indoor/outdoor setting.
The whole thing is just an ugly pain in the backside... Looks like we may have to increase the old budget Re: Can we just update this kitchen? 5Oct 01, 2008 2:47 pm If by update you mean add some more units, it is possible, but would not be my first recommendation - one of the problems you might face with adding a run of units is joining the new top with the old - and I don't know about your chances of matching that laminate.
If you are thinking about replacing the benchtop as well (that is a postformed top and not very easy or economical to resurface) then you are getting closer to replacement cost anyway. I can see why you want to move the stove now, but at least it is on an external wall, nice and easy. Only problem I see at the moment is where you can move the stove to - it can't be underneath either of those windows, but might just fit right next to the window where the sink is...of course you would then have to move the sink... A floorplan of the whole area would make it easier to visualise the space available and allow some more cognizant suggestions. There are a few good kitchen design businesses in Brisbane who are not high pressure sales oriented and would probably be quite keen to give you some more detailed advice. Oh and by the way, that wall unit above the oven is illegal - too close to the gas top. Cheers, Earl I work with owner, he/she is my man on the ground and I instruct them when to visit the site and take photos and I have other tools in the bag. 4 15244 2 10974 |
