In the above pic, if you want 40mm or thicker and don't want a general substrate under the centre, you will have to have 2 (or more depending on the thickness you want) pieces of stone laminated the whole way through to get that thickness. This is different to a normal 40mm or larger island, where just the edge is laminated. This could easily mean you need to buy a whole other slab to make this look work. Edit: Forgot to mention, in the above pic, i'd be pretty sure that they have a steel reinforcing plate running on the underside or inside of that stone, which will bump your price.
