Browse Forums Kitchen Corner 1 Sep 15, 2008 11:01 pm Does anyone have black stone benches?
Jet Black or Night Sky from Caeserstone or QQ or other brands equivalent.... A certain sh*t stirring forum member (they know who they are ) has got me all worried that they'll be inappropriate and show every little crumb..... Would like to hear from someone who has them...... Bit more post selection stress.... Jo I leave you to fend for yourself, figure things out yourself. Terrence Malick Re: Black stone benches.......anyone? 2Sep 15, 2008 11:11 pm Hi Jo,
I have black granite, I think the colour is Zimbabwe Black! They do require a bit of upkeep but I absolutely adore the look. I'd never even considered having granite until I saw it in the display home and then I just couldn't live without it. They don't show every crumb but you do have to dry thoroughly with a teatowel each time you wipe them down or they look all crap and smeary. Having said that, I am definitely not an OTT "housewife", so if I can keep it looking nice, anyone can! Pennie Re: Black stone benches.......anyone? 3Sep 15, 2008 11:20 pm I love Black Zimbabwe or Zimbabwe Black (I'm not sure either )..... my favourite granite.
Yeah, I'm clean but not OTT either so good it's ok! Just someone has made me worry for nothing. Jo But no-one seems to pick black stone. I wonder why? I leave you to fend for yourself, figure things out yourself. Terrence Malick Re: Black stone benches.......anyone? 4Sep 15, 2008 11:31 pm joles But no-one seems to pick black stone. I wonder why? Yes, I've noticed that - there is a really strong tendency to light coloured bench tops. I had a light colour last time but I much prefer the black. It looks sensational with white cupboards. I wouldn't worry about anyone stirring you - it will look great! I work full time and have two kids so I'm not always on top of the housework but I do keep the bench looking nice, I've even trained my husband to dry it properly and it's not too hard. Let me know if you want some pics now I know how to post them! Re: Black stone benches.......anyone? 5Sep 15, 2008 11:34 pm Yes pics would be lovely...
I remember looking at granite samples and yours was the one I immediately thought I'd go with if I went granite. We are having the Jet Black everywhere except for Seattle Sky in the laundry and powder room..... so the black look better work. But I'm wondering why no-one seems to go for dark benchtops.... I leave you to fend for yourself, figure things out yourself. Terrence Malick Re: Black stone benches.......anyone? 6Sep 15, 2008 11:34 pm Penjay please post them. I love pics of dark benches. we are having a medium/dark bench and I love looking at photos. Re: Black stone benches.......anyone? 8Sep 15, 2008 11:38 pm I have black granite in my current kitchen. Yes, it does show finger prints and crumbs and I am forever wiping it down and polishing it over.
I am used to doing it now but initially it really p'd me off. You have to be prepared for the up keep and you will have the look you want. Having said that, although my current kitchen looks like a display house kitchen and I love it big time my children are not display children so I won't have it in the new house. Cheers Joanne Re: Black stone benches.......anyone? 10Sep 15, 2008 11:46 pm Sharee blackpocket I had to read your post a couple of times, I first thought you had said your children weren't display children so you wouldn't be having them in the new house Me too Sharee! I think I love the look enough to cope..... but mmmm no-one likes dark benches do they. Backpocket, out of interest what are you having in the new house? I leave you to fend for yourself, figure things out yourself. Terrence Malick Re: Black stone benches.......anyone? 11Sep 15, 2008 11:55 pm Ok, I am going to try this, hope it works...
This is a picture of my current kitchen. Sharee LOL sometimes I wish I wasn't having them in the new house, much easier to keep it clean Joanne OOPS sorry file is too big. I will try to put it up on photobucket. Like ⋅ Add a comment ⋅ Pin to Ideaboard ⋅ Sharee, I am agonising over colours ATM. Have only changed my mind 4 times today, it's a good day.... Notice that you can see everything reflected in the granite, it's like a mirror. But I love it !! This is a photo before I did the "window treatment" and got the brass overs for the powerpoints to match the handles on the drawers. Re: Black stone benches.......anyone? 12Sep 16, 2008 12:22 am joles - I love dark benchtops. I would have one, except my mum is putting more $$ into the house than we are, and she really wanted a light benchtop. (I did manage to get Laminex New Graphite for the vanities and laundry cupboards.)
Judie Re: Black stone benches.......anyone? 13Sep 16, 2008 7:37 am I am going to go against the flow here.
I HATE dark benchtops - I've lived with one in the apartment we bought (black granite) and again in our rental. The crumbs show, the dust shows, water marks show - I will never ever have one again. After 4 years - we're in! Re: Black stone benches.......anyone? 14Sep 16, 2008 8:37 am I love black ones too - but my mum has always had them - and I didn't want to get my mum's kitchen!
but now I can't wait to get my light coloured ones. Jo some ppl say you can stain light coloured ones too, so either way there are pros and cons - just go with what you love. backpocket yours are gorgeous. Re: Black stone benches.......anyone? 15Sep 16, 2008 8:45 am Judie joles - I love dark benchtops. (I did manage to get Laminex New Graphite for the vanities and laundry cupboards.) Judie Judie, that is exactly my situation.... I'm 40%, my mum is 60%..... but my mum says "whatever you want" to everything. It's not actually as good as it sounds... all the choices but also all the responsibility if it looks crap. Stonecutter, good to hear from others that have them. I love the look so I guess I'll stick with it, just don't know anyone that has them so good to hear why. Terrence Malick Re: Black stone benches.......anyone? 17Sep 16, 2008 11:17 am I have black galaxy granite, however am yet to complete the build so i'm unable to tell you how it goes with up keep. A builder/developer i know has it on all his townhouses and I loved it, infact I copied him by using the same kichen/vanity colours and benchtops in my build. Re: Black stone benches.......anyone? 19Sep 16, 2008 11:41 am Yep more pics would be great.....
I think I'm still loving the look. No I am! Note to self..... do not listen to to_do_list.... he is evil and brings on unneccessary stress! I leave you to fend for yourself, figure things out yourself. Terrence Malick Re: Black stone benches.......anyone? 20Sep 16, 2008 5:08 pm I have just recently had Indian Black granite put in my kitchen ( see pic on splashback update) I have to say the first day I was a bit angst about the amount of debris it showed ( including my cats fly away hair! ) however, I can live with that coz i think they look very classy
I have come across a fantastic cleaning cloth that is used for cleaning glass with no smears, so I bought half a dozen of them and now they are my kitchen cloths which i use in conjunction with a granite style spray and wipe. cheers Thankyou for your advice. We do have Caesar coming out and hopefully resolve the issue for us. 4 18733 The warning is on the sticker on the door too.
