Kitchen island.....waterfall or not?

We also weren't sure about waterfall ends and initially had it in our contract but got rid of them last minute after seeing a lot of display homes not having them and our sales guy even said how they were all ready going out of 'fashion' but in saying that they are always going to still look nice.

You have to be carefull with sales guys and fashions.

There is a perceived fashion that 20mm stone is "in" personally I only think its in fashion because all the spec building companies are using. They are using it because its cheaper for them and then it allows them to sell you an upgrade to 40mm.

For me when money is no object customers always go for 40mm stone.

I agree we downgraded from the 40mm promotion to 20mm and got a credit i think it just looks less bulky and more modern

And then we spend the next 7 years with stone in the kitchen pussy-footing around afraid of scratching, melting, staining, cracking, chipping the ruddy stuff! Grab a nice laminate sheet and you can rip it off and replace for a freshen up anytime in the future. JMHOOC.

Personally my 3m kitchen island is going to be a workhorse. No waterfall as all four sides are going to be used. One long side will be all drawers, other long side will be seating and a couple of narrow cupboards for the kids’ schoolwork stuff. Short ends will have shelves, one side for cookbooks, other side for everyday crockery and cutlery (it’s next to the dishwasher and fridge). GPOs and chargers at all four corners, hooks for tea towels/ oven mitts.

That's the way to do it! Love the eclectic kitchens you see in the USA a bit.....workhorses, often with a rough top you could use a chopper on!

We did both - we have u shaped kitchen with a short bench in between (we also used wood rather than stone) Do what you love

I also went with 20mm as I don't like the bulky look.

I also like 20mm stone cos you know straight away that it’s stone. With 40mm sometimes you have to go near it to check cos laminates can look the same. I don’t like that I spent all that money and it can be mistaken for laminate or the laminate can look just as good as my 40mm stone that’s twice or more the price. But look wise, I also prefer the slim look of 20mm.

Thanks. We hadn't realised it had been that long until we decided to sell the house and found all of the paperwork from when it was installed. Hopefully we make good choices on our next kitchen. In the house design process at the moment.
