Browse Forums Kitchen Corner 1 Sep 14, 2008 2:36 pm Hi all,
I'm having a hard time choosing the best colour option for caesarstone benchtops in my kitchen We are thinking 'neutral' walls in 'hog bristle' or similar . Floor tiles will be a medium to dark brown. Glass Splashback will be as pictured in the first photo. I was toying with caesarstone 'Linen' or 'Ivory' and Up until two nights ago, this is exactly what I had picked for my kitchen: Like ⋅ Add a comment ⋅ Pin to Ideaboard ⋅ BUT... I have since read (on the internet) that the lighter coloured Caesarstone surfaces are easily stained by red wine, pasta sauce etc and these marks can be hard to clean(?) Given that I love to cook, but am not the cleanest cook around- am I best to go a darker option like 'cashmere'? Like ⋅ Add a comment ⋅ Pin to Ideaboard ⋅ http://i79.photobucket.com/albums/j124/cadburygal/HOUSE/3.jpg I'm just trying to picture it with my other colour choices. The closest Dark (floor), Light (cabinetry), Dark (benchtop) combination I could find was this one: Like ⋅ Add a comment ⋅ Pin to Ideaboard ⋅ For those of you who have or have previously had light coloured Caesarstone in the kitchen, did it stain? Was it hard to keep clean? Which option would you choose? Re: Caesarstone benchtop advice needed please 2Sep 14, 2008 3:06 pm Dee, I haven't read on any website that Caesarstone stains, I thought it was indestructible correct me please if I am wrong. Can you give me the link to this website? This could be a problem for me as well. Re: Caesarstone benchtop advice needed please 3Sep 14, 2008 3:11 pm I've heard this also, but then I've also heard it's rubbish.. so not sure... sorry not much help.... but I went for Jet Black just in case cos if it can be stained, I'll stain it.
With your colours, I think the Ivory might be too yellowy, the Linen or Cashmere would look great or what about Mink? Jo I leave you to fend for yourself, figure things out yourself. Terrence Malick Re: Caesarstone benchtop advice needed please 4Sep 14, 2008 3:37 pm I was googling the other night and found the following posts on another forum:
Quote: tabula rasa: I'd be careful if you get white like we did, its supposed to be non porus(?) but it does stain if u leave say curry or tomato paste spots or rings on it. So far I've just kept scrubbing and scrubbing which got them out but it takes awhile. Quote: London Girl: We have CS in our kitchen, and like tabula rasa we've discovered it can be actually quite porous, even if you only leave something on there while you eat - rings from red wine bottles, some tin cans, tomato paste, paprika etc. If you're looking at it for your bathroom though I suppose the chances of dark colours hitting it are minimal. I have my heart set on CS and I want to make the right choice This is the forum where these posts appeared: http://forums.vogue.com.au/showthread.php?t=305401 Cheers, Dee ---------------------------------------------------------------------------- Our BLOG: http://buildingourdreams.blogspot.com/ Building the 'DEE 257.9' Contract signed 08/09/08. Re: Caesarstone benchtop advice needed please 6Sep 14, 2008 3:52 pm There was another one on the second page:
Rusky: Quote: I also agree with these comments. We have a caesarstone kitchen bench and it is very porous. If you put down a glass which has red wine on it, the ring will form straight away. The stains do come out, but they take a bit of scrubbing and I have had to use heavy duty cleaners (eg gumption), which I know you are not supposed to use with caesarstone. Does anyone on homeone have any similar experiences with staining on CS? Jo, it's sooo hard! I really like the 'linen' but was worried that it might be too close to the splashback colour and not enough contrast? Oh, I don't know Where's Michelle when you need her I do like the cashmere though, and am wondering whether that might be the 'safe' option I think the mink has a little bit of something else in it from memory (a blotchy pattern, i think). Re: Caesarstone benchtop advice needed please 7Sep 14, 2008 4:02 pm Hi She+He,
I LOVE that first kitchen you put up! Beautiful I agree with Ivory being too yellow, at least for my taste. MInk or Cashmere are gorgeous - I don't think its a problem being the same as s/back - I've actually seen a photo of a kitchen (might have been on here somewhere?)where the bench top colour and material was continued up the side as a splashback, and it looked great. Do you know what colour the s/back is in that photo? And what colour the benchtop is? Oh and sorry, I know not about staining... Re: Caesarstone benchtop advice needed please 9Sep 14, 2008 4:27 pm That'll put it to the test! Thanks SuH you're a gem!
I don't have any 'real' samples, just a brochure Quote: Do you know what colour the s/back is in that photo? And what colour the benchtop is? Donuts, that kitchen is showing a caesarstone finish (but I can't remember which one ) and no, I don't know what the splashback colour is, I just know I WANT it! Re: Caesarstone benchtop advice needed please 11Sep 14, 2008 5:20 pm Oh, I hope it doesn't stain - I'm having a totally white kitchen (which has just been installed - yippee!!! ) , including Ice Quantum Quartz bench tops, which is basially the same as the Snow C-stone . I'm not the neatest cook, either, and with 3 messy boys and an equally messy DD, I hope I haven't done the wrong thing!!!
I LOVE that first kitchen, too - stunning! Solidarity, not solidity.......The Lexicon of Life Re: Caesarstone benchtop advice needed please 12Sep 14, 2008 5:24 pm I love that first kitchen, it's beautiful! I have no idea about the stain resistance of the ceasarstone (hope its pretty good because we are having a white bench and I am messy!) those that posted did say they got the stains out in the end so that comforting. Re: Caesarstone benchtop advice needed please 13Sep 14, 2008 5:26 pm OKAY .... I just went and wiped all the muck off, just lightly with a wet sponge. The only thing that stained was the curry. NOW...... I rubbed a little harder just with the sponge and it came off more, BUT..... then I did get a tiny little bit of gumption onto it but didn't rub too hard and it all came off. SO.... I am happy to use a little bit of gumption AND...... we must remember to put spoons with coloured stuff on them in the sink instead or on a plate. A good lesson for us all TAHDAH Re: Caesarstone benchtop advice needed please 15Sep 14, 2008 6:17 pm We have C'stone - Ice snow and we occasionally get stains but a quick rub with gumption or jif and its gone.
Not a issue Go with what you want Re: Caesarstone benchtop advice needed please 16Sep 14, 2008 7:26 pm Thank you all so much for your replies and a big thank you SuH for taking the time to put it to the test!
I am so glad that I can now choose my colour based on aesthetics AND practicality (doing my happy dance). Leaning towards 'linen' now I think, but it of course it is subject to change I AM a woman after all Cheers, Dee ---------------------------------------------------------------------------- Our BLOG: http://buildingourdreams.blogspot.com/ Building the 'DEE 257.9' Contract signed 08/09/08. Re: Caesarstone benchtop advice needed please 17Sep 27, 2008 12:52 pm Just a tip = I just installed eggshell caeserstone and there are these yellow marks all over it that are considered "part of the stone". No refund, yet it looks like little yellow stains all over my new countertop. So inspect your slab carefully before purchase, even though it is manufactured stone it can still have irregularities. Also, it seams quite badly. Ask for a sample seam so you can check the look on your colour before you agree to any seams. Re: Caesarstone benchtop advice needed please 18Sep 27, 2008 9:37 pm Hi ChrissyJames & welcome!
Thank you for your imput, but I am not familiar with that colour? Are you sure that 'eggshell' is part of the caesarstone range? I know that there are a few other alternatives when it comes to man-made stone benchtops. Silestone, Essa Stone & Quantum Quartz are all makers of similar products. I have not looked into all of these alternatives, but perhaps some are more prone to irregularities? Maybe someone with more knowledge on these, or your particular product in question can shed some light here? Re: Caesarstone benchtop advice needed please 19Sep 27, 2008 9:54 pm I like the Linen.
I really don’t think that colour will cause a problem. But as said before, it’s important to use chopping boards in the kitchen…all the time. I don’t do a thing on my laminate; it’s all done either in the sink or on my large ceramic chopping board.
