Has anyone upgraded a new build with soft close drawers or are they a standard feature with drawer units nowadays?
We had them in our last build but TBH they just were, we didn't specifically ask for them.

We have to have them on 8 of our pot draws (so 16 thingies in total) because I want the draws to slide open and softly close. Also getting a tandem draw fitted into one of the pot draws for large utensils. Expecting up to and over 2K for this...worth every cent IMHO for these particular draws. Also, hardware come in white (being cheaper ) and stainless steel. No guessing which colour I just had to have Mrs B Re: Soft close drawers 4Sep 12, 2008 8:35 pm Heres a thread I did on this subject earlier..

What they actually call them will depend on the brand name the cabinetmaker uses Blum has Meta box for normal metal sided draw system Blum has Tandem box for sofy close metal sided draw system Hettich has Innotech, Quadro and Multitech. There are other brands as well like Haffelle wich will have there own system Best Price Wardrobes Sliding door robes | Walk in robes Deco panel | Mirror | Melamine 26 to 28 Cottage lane Hackham M: 0402 927 376 http://www.bestpricewardrobes.com.au Trade welcome Re: Soft close drawers 9Sep 18, 2008 3:22 pm depends on how many draws you have in your kitchen. when knocking up a cheap kitchen you may only have 6 draws (standard 4 for cutlery and 2 pot draws) so 6 x $50-$100 isnt so hard to swallow.
The kitchen i put in my PPOR which was supposed to be lived in for a while had 20+ draws because its part of the lounge and its storage and there was no way i was putting softclose on all. I have the inovetech ones for the record they seem to be holding up well to my lack of care. Re: Soft close drawers 11Jan 06, 2009 11:01 am vid Does anyone know if it is possible to have the standard draws fitted and DIY the softclose bits post installation and would you save money by doing this? For drawers, I think the whole rail needs to be replaced. Re: Soft close drawers 12Jan 06, 2009 11:03 am Kevin Brown Hettich has Innotech, Quadro and Multitech. For reference, Simonds use the Innotech name. We had them added to all our drawers in our kitchen. Re: Soft close drawers 13Jan 06, 2009 11:14 am Wisdom Homes had the Blum softclose thingos as part of their Kitchen package promo (not sure if this promo is still on), DH and I loved it so much we asked to put Blum softclose thingos for our cabinets in the kitchen too! (not too sure which ones exactly, I don't have a copy of the tender with me right now) it only cost us a few hundred $ to add the cabinet ones to the tender Re: Soft close drawers 14Jan 06, 2009 12:30 pm vid Does anyone know if it is possible to have the standard draws fitted and DIY the softclose bits post installation and would you save money by doing this? No and no. The plunger style solution as previously discussed can be retro fitted to existing drawer sets - but this is not really advocated as a softclose solution for drawers. Complete softclose drawer sets feature different drilling for the runners in the carcasses, different drawer box construction for the drawers and different fastening methods to the drawer fronts. If you really want them I would advocate getting them supplied and installed at the manufacturing stage as it is easier and cheaper to fit all these pieces when the carcasses are unassembled. Cheers, Earl Re: Soft close drawers 16Jan 06, 2009 12:41 pm Blum offer a 25 year warranty on all their hardware but that is not the same as "normal wear and tear" (don't you just love that clause?)
The new generation of softclose hardware has been around for about 5 years or so, which makes it a bit early to be getting much feedback; but having said that I have yet to have a client come back to me about a Blum product - the Blum philosophy seems to be more along the lines of build it well enough so that we don't need to fix anything. Talking about lifespans, the average kitchen only has a ten year warranty on the cabinetry, so it would seem that the drawers will last longer than the cupboards. Cheers, Earl Re: Soft close drawers 17Jan 06, 2009 4:20 pm hey there, i don't know what brand is being used, but i have 4 soft close drawers going into my kitchen....wanted more, but any how, i have 4 drawers at a price of an extra $260 to make them soft close drawers. I think it isnt too bad a price actually and even if you have more even triple the amount would still come under $800.
HTH Re: Soft close drawers 18Jan 07, 2009 4:28 pm Ikea sells the Blum drawer dampers for $10/pair which you can attach onto the rails yourself, or you can get the rails with built in dampers for $20/pairs. Not sure which Blum drawers they are but i think it's metabox. Re: Soft close drawers 19Jan 07, 2009 4:51 pm Sorry, the Blum drawers from ikea should be tandembox in gray powder coating, not metabox.
