Hi all!
We're first time home owners and are building through a volume builder. We will be having our appointment to pick everything very soon, but have already had some pricing done up for us, one of which is for an upgrade to the kitchen cabinet doors.
We want a shaker style door, and when we were at the showroom our consultant said it would be about $60 a door for the thermolaminate stuff, however when we've been given a price breakdown, it looks as though they don't just charge for the doors, they upgrade all the cabinets to that material as well.
We were wanting some opinions on whether it seemed like a stupid idea to get the standard cabinets and flat doors, and then upgrading to a shaker profile after handover, whether that be going through Bunnings or hiring a custom cabinetry person, rather than doing it through the builder?
The price of doing it through the builder looks to be around $3000 just for the kitchen alone, ideally I would like to have the bathrooms done as well but for that price, I just can't justify it.
My worst fear would be not being able to easily get the profile doors we want because the cabinets are an odd size, but even having someone custom do the doors, would it be likely this would approach a $3000 price tag?
Has anyone that uses this website done this? I see plenty of tutorials for doing this on older kitchens, but I'd like to know if someone has gone through a new build only to change cabinet doors afterwards.
Thanks in advance!
