Browse Forums Kitchen Corner 1 Sep 06, 2008 3:29 pm I have been looking at kitchen ideas now for about a year and have changed my mind about 1001 times . I told our cabinet maker, yesterday was my last visit, I think I even promised he is very patient and laughed, saying he is only a phone call away. I have kept the basic set up the same. Island bench, Caesarstone benchtops in Nougat., the only two things that haven't changed. My changes have been mainly colours, where to put the sink, handles or no handles (my favourite game), how wide the cupboards should be, what colour I want the utility drawer (such a difficult decision) frosted or not frosted (my current nightmare). I haven't seen anything I would rather have....this week, but I warned him, until that kitchen is started there are no holds barred and be very scared when the phone rings Re: My Poor Kitchen Builder 3Sep 08, 2008 9:53 pm Hi SuH, we are having nougat benchtops as well, and since you have already agonised over your bench colours and kitchen design, are you up for sharing what you have come up with?? I am interested in your reasoning around types of cupboards, drawers and handles etc....All I have decided so far is that I want pot drawers with a specific slot for pot lids!!
I like the idea of a colour for cupboards, not neutral...thinking maybe green?? Like ⋅ Add a comment ⋅ Pin to Ideaboard ⋅ Like ⋅ Add a comment ⋅ Pin to Ideaboard ⋅ - BUT NOT WITH THE RED SPLASHBACK!! In fact, D@n or someone, if you read this - would it be too much to ask for a change to white stone benchtops and I would take advice on splashback colour..... Sorry SuH, I hope this doesn't hijack your thread!! Ruth -Bought house in Melbourne inner burbs, knocked it down & now...we are owner builders! Well, I have always loved the Nougat, just love the little bits of stone as it reminds me of he beach - a very pebbly beach, it will be a waterfall bench only in 20mm.
I am having 2 pac Laminex White doors under the island bench with my microwave, garbages, dishwasher here. Against the wall behind there are 8 pot drawers and 4 narrower ones for cutlery etc with the cooktop in the middle and underbench oven. These will have long brushed aluminium handles in a squareish shape. I have 10 rectangle overhead cupboards in two rows with the middle ones taken up by the totally hidden rangehood, these will be white painted glass with Laminex Fineline aluminium frames. The O/H cupboards have no handles, the bottom row pulls up and the top is a push open. There will be a pull out pantry to the right, then the fridge and another half pull out pantry with a laundry shute under, the same handles will be on the pantries, but the laundry shute will be push open, these panels are in Ferric Sheen which is a metalic champagney colour, it is kind of a cross between silver and gold depending on the light, this colour is also at the front of the island bench. I also have a roll up utility cupboard in Ferric Sheen at the end of the back bench. Oh, yes and the splash back is in Ironbark metalic on Starfire glass. I love the green cupboard idea but I would have a white splashback on starfire glass like in the photo and the frosted glass panels look great too the photo looks pretty good to me colour wise Re: My Poor Kitchen Builder 5Sep 09, 2008 10:30 am SuH, what brand paint is the Ferris Sheen and Ironbark please?
And Rerob, I would stick with white so your cupboards are not overshadowed. If you are going to go for the green I would do like the first pic you posted. It makes it look fresh. SuH, sounds like a very similar layout to what I am having. No handles...overhead white gloss cupboards with speckled white stone benchtop 20mm. Lots of drawers and square brushed handles down the bottom. 2x full height to bench pullout garbage cupboards and I am looking for a metallic colour for my splashback. Did your cabinet maker draw your options up? My hubby is a draftsmen and he has been able to draw it all up to show me where it is all going to fit and what it looks like.....it certainly helps to make decisions. Re: My Poor Kitchen Builder 6Sep 09, 2008 10:47 am They aren't a paint brand that I know of, I have seen both colours on a Glass Splashback website as standard metalic colours, but you must be able to get it in a paint as well, cause my kitchen guy did and he has done another kitchen it in recently (that sounded a bit dumb I think ah well). Another nice metalic one is Java Dusk which my daughter has in her kitchen, it is a bit darker than Ferric Sheen but nowhere near as dark as Ironbark. Ironbark is the most delicious chocolate colour, hmmmm
I actually did my own plan on computer, my kitchen guy is very helpful but I told him what I wanted as I knew what set up I wanted and after reading 5000 magazines think I have thought of everything now, x fingers. Re: My Poor Kitchen Builder 7Sep 09, 2008 11:27 am rerob1 BUT NOT WITH THE RED SPLASHBACK!! In fact, D@n or someone, if you read this - would it be too much to ask for a change to white stone benchtops and I would take advice on splashback colour..... umm what do you want changed? confused. Re: My Poor Kitchen Builder 8Sep 09, 2008 10:36 pm Hi D@n, can you do the red kitchen splashback in a different colour, maybe white or a different light colour (sorry to be so non-specific, I am still unsure of what colour splashback) and is it possible to get white benchtops instead of ss? I know thats whats in the first picture, but its a different shade of green cupboards, I like the darker green as it doesn't look as washed out....If its easier, you can change the first picture's light green cupboards to the darker shade of green??
If thats even more confusing, I'm sorry, its late and I am soooooooooo tired!!! And don't worry if its too much trouble...thanks! Re: My Poor Kitchen Builder 9Sep 09, 2008 10:46 pm I would love to learn how to do my own design, I have looked at google sketch up, but am not sure how to get started!
SuH, what program did you use? Your kitchen sounds great by the way! Love the idea of your colours, especially the metalic shades in different light! We are getting the 40m with the waterfall in the nougat, I think the waterfall will be a great feature as it gives the benchtop a sleek finished look!! How long until you have your dream kitchen installed? I get so excited when I look at kitchen designs and talk about it, then reality hits and it seems so far away for us, our slab isn't even finished yet!!! Re: My Poor Kitchen Builder 10Sep 10, 2008 7:01 am I knew someone would ask what program I used all I used was the drawing toolbar and used rectangles of different sizes, even did the frame around the top cupboards using very skinny rectangles, then I coloured them in a light taupe colour. Put in an oven, a funny little cooktop, a speckled benchtop, a choc brown splashback and so on. I had to do the back, island bench and side sections on three different sketches. It was more than I got from the kitchen guy, who bytheway is lovely but still does graph drawings that look like nothing. Hi Mofflepop, I would recommend finding a building designer to prepare plans, they should design to your specified budget. The benefit is you can tender the project out… 9 20425 No. It's not original. Circa early to mid 90s would be my guess and maybe even as late as early 2000s 1 6634 |
