Hi H1 members,
I'm planning to install a built in desk in my study and was going to use a laminate kitchen benchtop. As the desk was to go the full width of the study, I plan to support the bench with support brackets on either side, along the back, as well as 1 leg in the middle at the front (I'm sure there are better ways but the next bit is my challenge). My issue is that I'm struggling to find the bench I need at a reasonable price. The length is 2.5m, and I'd like it 70cm deep. All of the pre-cut bench tops I've seen are either only 2.2M long, or only 60cm deep. I've spoken to a couple of cabinet makers and as you'd imagine this is a job they will do but it's more trouble than it's worth.
Do any of you have any suggestions about what I can use as a desk top given the required dimensions, or where I might be able to get a pre done laminate type benchtop at a reasonable price. I'm happy to cut to size so no problem if it's bigger than required. I'm located in Sydney and I assume I need to source something close otherwise the transport will be too expensive.
Thanks for your assistance.

Probably cheaper to build custom. Go and buy some sheets of thick MDF, cut to size, bracket to wall.. then cover with material of your choice (we used cork)

I can do a custom made top at any size. Do you have the exact sizes and colour of the laminate?

Trademaster, in Granville, will likely be able to look after you on this bench top need. Lovely, helpful people with super prices. I tell you, you will fall over when you see their hardware prices! One of the only places I know of, too, where you can walk in and organise laminate sheeting supplies.

Building in bardia Alamein st but not sure with which builder yet. I probably have to get drop edge beam as well due to garage and driveway council rules.
