Browse Forums Kitchen Corner 1 Feb 20, 2018 12:10 pm Hi Guys, Just had the splashback tiles installed in my new house, and noticed that the tiler had installed them incorrectly. They are a hexagonal mosaic tile, and the floor plans stated to install them with the points going side to side and the flat edges top and bottom. The tiler didn't read the plans and installed them the other way. I notified my supervisor and he said he would see what he can do. I went past the house a few days later and noticed the tiles had been corrected. I managed to get in and decided to have a closer look, and noticed the tiler and re-tiled the splashback over the original job. He's obviously done this to avoid ripping out the old tiles and risk damaging the plaster. I'm yet to notify my supervisor, but I'm wondering if this is an issue and something I should ask to be changed? Re: help with splashback issue in new house 2Feb 20, 2018 4:37 pm It wont make any difference but its not how it should be done. I wouldn't be happy and would ask them to do it again. Problem is that the grout is now the wrong colour! I mentioned this to my supervisor and he said it came out of the same bag, I said I'm not sure how that's possible as the colour is very different to what it was before. Old colour was dark grey, new colour is light grey. See attached pic for photo. I don't have a response from them yet on what they're going to do and I'm stressing. I can't believe this is the 3rd attempt at fixing this and they still got it wrong. I absolutely hate the new grout colour. How can something like this be fixed? There is no way it came out of the same back if its that different. Ask to see the back and check the colour on it. Had a response from my site supervisor today. He said he went to the house to have a look and compared the sample and said 'it looks the same', lol. I bluntly said 'no it's not'. We're now meeting on Monday to discuss. This is stressful. Re: help with splashback issue in new house 8May 04, 2018 8:38 am Its crazy, a tiled splashback is such an easy job. I cant believe they have much such a meal of it. I brought this up with the building manager as it was obvious this was done due to the fact that the old grout was still visible around the powerpoints and there was now inconsistency in the grout lines due to going over the edges, so some lines appear thicker than others. I received confirmation that the tiler has been on-site and addressed the issue, but it still looks the same to me from what I could see. Wondering what my options are here? Are they allowed to grout over the top, and do I have the right to make them do the whole lot again? thanks Chippy, i hope they have applied sealer but i am doubt to be honest, so i am gonna do this job after handover. 8 16295 2 5956 |
