Browse Forums Kitchen Corner 1 Aug 31, 2008 9:16 pm My new kitchen is being installed in 3 weeks. I eventually intend to replace all of my downstairs flooring with a floating timber floor. Problem is I can't install the timber floor until some other jobs have been done. My kitchen guy has asked about the kicks - do I want the timber floor to butt up to them (to allow for movement or run the timber under the kicks a short way in which case he needs to make the kicks slightly smaller. I have no idea! Help!
TIA Cheers Aquagal (looking forward to life after renos) Re: Kickboards and Timber Flooring 2Sep 01, 2008 6:35 am How long before you get the flooring done?
If it is not too long I would ask him if he can leave the kick boards off and come back to fit them once the flooring is in. Otherwise my preference is to run the board under the kicks so the gap would be your option. Kicks sitting on top of the boards is a much cleaner and easiser join than getting all the boards to butt perfectly up against the kick. There is a good chance that you will find as many people who are in favour of one method as the other - there is a lot of debate about this and I am yet to encounter a definitive answer. Re: Kickboards and Timber Flooring 5Sep 01, 2008 6:02 pm Sounds like under is the way to go and I agree it will be a much neater job. I think I will ask that the kicks are left off and finished later.
Thank you all so much.
