Browse Forums Kitchen Corner 1 Aug 31, 2008 6:28 pm We have quite a small kitchen that we have extended. (See photo) The far wall will have the fridge, oven, microwave and overhead cupboards etc but the bench in the foreground will become a breakfast bar with the stove and a range hood on the wall next to it.
My main question is, what laminate would you pick? We keep coming back to Jerusalem Stone or Toffee Mineral Stone (Diamond Gloss by Laminex), or the plainer Cocoa Nougat or Quicksand (Natural Finish by Laminex) The cupboards will most likely be a Warm White Velour FInish by Formica or something similar. I like the gloss cupboards but can't stand the thought of cleaning fingermarks off them all the time. The benchtop will be enough. As you can see, we have wooden floors, we intend to retile the kitchen and splashbacks. Eventually the walls will be repainted as I don't like the yellowish tones we have. My main concern is keeping the kitchen light and bright but not washed out . What would you do? ( cupboards facing the camera)
Are you taking the hob off totally….or are you re-doing it? So I guess my question is…..will there be a hob on the bench or will it be just kitchen benchtop with no interruption of view into the kitchen? Where the hob is now, we will have a breakfast bar. Where the wall leads into the kitchen (the new gap you can see) we will have the stove (close to the breakfast bar, I know, but not many other options) with a rangehood above it. And yes, you will have an uninterrupted view into the kitchen. We are trying to open up a small kitchen, dining, lounge area. Re: Ideas please 4Sep 01, 2008 6:51 pm Paddy05……are all the colours you mentioned new to Laminex?
I only have the Cocoa Nougat out of the 4 colours you said. Typical of my rep not keeping me up to date! The one colour I have, Cocoa Nougat is really lovely and I think quite natural looking. I’m sorry I can’t help you with the other colours! But I really like the Cocoa Nougat; it’s very complementary to a warm white and will look very nice with your timber floors. Internal and External Building and Colour Consultant Online - Worldwide http://www.denovoconcepts.com Re: Ideas please 5Sep 01, 2008 8:08 pm What about a darkish colour on the bottom and a lighter colour on the uprights and a neutral bench. I think that would draw the eye in but also still make the area look bright and modern.
Just a different idea Re: Ideas please 6Sep 01, 2008 8:59 pm We thought about having dark cupboards with a light bench but went back to the original set-up. The diamond gloss products from Laminex are only about 6 months old and we were pretty excited at first about getting a gloss bench top that might replicate granite but we just can't find anyone that has seen Jerusalem Stone made up. I even asked on the kitchen forum if anyone had their kitchen made in this product. Re: Ideas please 7Sep 01, 2008 9:10 pm They are 6 months old?
Boy is my rep going to get a serve! Any thoughts are better than none at all. There is a brochure available with the Diamond Gloss finishes in them. The product is supposed to be scratch resistant. I have 15cm x 15cm samples and have used a scourer on them. All good, no scratches! Re: Ideas please 9Sep 01, 2008 9:28 pm The gloss have come a long way compared to what they used to be.
Clean with Windex, that’s what Laminex suggest. Good luck with it all, I think it’s going to look fantastic.
