Browse Forums Kitchen Corner 1 Aug 28, 2008 12:38 am We recently had a caesarstone benchtop installed. We are concerned with a couple of aspects.
1. To allow for the 40mm edge the installer packed the gap between the 20mm section of the benchtop and the abinets with bits of laminate he found onsite. I was under the impression that 20mm plywood or equivalent would have been laid down over all the cupboards as packing before placing the stone on top. Am I right? 2. There are sections where the bench is out of level. About 5mm over a 1 metre length. Is this acceptable? (the tops of the cabinets were level before the bench was installed). 3. Where the benchtop meets the fridge surround there is a gap that has been filled with silicon of about 4-5mm. Is this acceptable? 4. We have a waterfall end on one of the benchtops and it finishes about 8mm above the finished floor. We haven't parted with the final payment for the installation and the installer has agreed to address some of the concerns. I would like to know if I am being too fussy , and what is considered acceptable workmanship quality. Many Thanks. Re: Caesarstone Bench Installtion Advice 3Aug 30, 2008 2:40 pm Hi Phil
I don't think you are being too fussy. Ceasarstone benchtops cost quite a bit of money and I would not be happy with the waterfall section not meeting the floor. Apart from all the dirt that can get under there, what are they going to fill it with. It should look professional, not **. Just wondering if they had a showroom that you visited prior to contracting their work. If so, check out the benchtops there and see if they meet the floor, you should expect the same quality as they are marketing to get your business in the first place. I don't understand why the installer didn't bring what was needed to do the job right instead of relying on things (the laminate) ****** around the house. I had an issue with a dishwasher once, the kick panel did not reach the floor. Their brochure had it as meeting the floor. I couldn't stand seeing the little feet everytime I looked at the dishwasher because the kick panel didn't meet the floor. After many phone calls and me advising them that the unit was designed as underbench with the kick panel covering everything to the floor (as per the picture on their brochure) they actually sent out a tech with a specially made kick panel. You should be getting what you paid for, no matter how inconvenient it is to the company. Acceptable workmanship is what they are marketing to you, which is what you make your decision based on, and nothing less. I guess the thing is if you can't see it maybe it won't bother you, but if you can see it, it should definitely be rectified. Hi - thanks for your reply. Yes I think 'Ill go for whitish with very speckly bits rather than pure white something like this. PS was actually 2008 I built the… 2 11633 Building Standards; Getting It Right! I see if they can adjust the hinges. 4 3765 |
