Browse Forums Kitchen Corner 1 Sep 16, 2017 5:58 pm Hello everyone, I certainly hope someone is able to steer me in the right direction with my kitchen renovation. My house was built c 1910, is double brick throughout and each wall is weight bearing. It needs lots of TLC but my kitchen is my biggest problem. It is 330 X 330, has the original chimney where the wood stove used to be and where we have installed a free standing gas/electric stove. The chimney is in the corner of the room which makes it very awkward to build cupboards along the wall in front of the stove. There is also a built in pantry with the door flush with the wall, (the door is coming off as soon as I can get to it). I have attempted to sketch the layout of the room with doors, hallway, etc. so that you are able to see what I mean about awkwardness. Sorry but I'm not any sort of artist. Any and all help and advice is welcome. I am open to having free standing units. The sink, as you will see, is not in the kitchen but out on the enclosed back veranda. Thank you in advance Cheers JoyEV Like ⋅ Add a comment ⋅ Pin to Ideaboard ⋅ Re: Kitchen Layout for 1910 built house 4Sep 22, 2017 8:11 pm I bet this is quite a puzzle because it's such a small space. Do you mean it's 3.3 metres by 3.3 metres? ...and the sink is in the next room? Where have you put your fridge? Maybe there's room to slide it into the existing pantry, so it doesn't stick out into the room too far. It seems like the best location for storage is an island bench in the middle, 1500x900. With cupboards and drawers right around it. Also put some cupboards near your sink, if there's room. Maybe you can also hang things from above the island bench, like this one...
