The space between the back bench and the kitchen island varies between 1.1m to 1.3m depending on the design, maybe a bit more for those U-shaped kitchens. On Arden's Beaumont and Votivo, I believe it's 1.1m. I didn't find it too small, and I am fussy with my kitchen. I think the best way is to go to a display home and try it out yourself.
