Sheen wipes off a lot easier - if you have an upgrade option to silk finish, do it. The cheapest of the shinier options. Have had matt laminex in the last 2 kitchens and will never have it again. I have to use a lot of elbow grease to get off the smallest marks. I prefer the way it looks - in display kitchens that aren't used! Builder told us that the silk finish was a further upgrade, more than sheen? Not sure how much though, sheen was an extra $900 but I didn't like the look, lots of finger prints on it. Re: Matt finish to kitchen cabinets - will it look ok? 4Jun 08, 2017 10:13 pm Sheen gets more fingerprints but so much easier to clean off. Matt gets grease marks that no matter how much you clean they don't come off. The grease ingrains in it. The sheen just wipe over with a microfiber cloth and it's as new. Hmmm with young kids that could be a huge problem!! Re: Matt finish to kitchen cabinets - will it look ok? 6Jun 08, 2017 11:50 pm I totally have to agree. We had our kitchen done in matte white laminex 3 years ago and I'll never do it again. It's the worst to clean, especially with small children. And heaven help you if tomato sauce splatters on it! Re: Matt finish to kitchen cabinets - will it look ok? 7Jun 09, 2017 7:07 am This is interesting. We currently have Laminex in our laundry and the builder has to replace it. They can't get the same colour in the required door profile so have suggested a Matt 2pac finish rather than Laminex or vinyl wrap. Particularly in the laundry though I am now worried if you can easily see greasy finger prints etc that this may not be a good idea! C U S T O M. C O R A L. We had dark in our last house and in our current rental and the grease marks are horrid. I do find windex works ok but not sure how good that is for the laminate. It looks clean when wet but when dried just looks like you have pushed the grease around a bit. Heard people talk about it but it's not a choice of finish on polytec site. Re: Matt finish to kitchen cabinets - will it look ok? 10Jun 09, 2017 9:18 am Yeah Laminex do silk finish. It's a semi-gloss, and pretty cheap to upgrade to. We did the whole kitchen in it (we can be pretty rough, and 2pac is just too much to worry about) and it cost $750 for a very large kitchen and butlers pantry. Much easier to clean, from all accounts. http://www.laminex.com.au/products.php# ... ss-panels/ Re: Matt finish to kitchen cabinets - will it look ok? 11Jun 09, 2017 10:08 am There are products out there specifically to clean matte surfaces. Reason being most general products will add a gloss or shine to a matte finish. That's the reason I can't find it, our builder uses Polytec not Laminex, that's why I can't find silk finish in their range!!
