Browse Forums Kitchen Corner 1 Aug 18, 2008 10:08 pm We are just finalising the design of our kitchen and we have noticed that our fridge will stick out about 10cm from the cabinetry. Is this acceptable? We won't be able to have a butt pantry if the cabinets are made deeper so it is a bit of an issue. Re: Does your fridge stick out? 2Aug 18, 2008 10:12 pm Yep mine sticks out. I like to have a nice fit around the sides but also to be able to open it nice and wide to fit in platters etc.
So I have mine sticking out a bit. Jo I leave you to fend for yourself, figure things out yourself. Terrence Malick Re: Does your fridge stick out? 3Aug 19, 2008 10:32 pm same with Jo, we'll have ours sticking out.
we prefer that. ----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Built the Nevada 42 Next project - landscaping! Re: Does your fridge stick out? 6Aug 20, 2008 9:29 am This is a hard one for me - as many of us know
We have a fridge space of 900mm wide x 650mm deep as standard. We want to increase this to 1m x 750mm deep to fit in most of the double door fridges, but I don't know if it will work. Problem being on the left hand side of the fridge it will be ok as the fridge will just stick out a little bit, but on the right hand side there is a wall that extends over 900mm deep, meaning there is no way the fridge can stick out past that side..... So we have to decide whether to make the fridge space wider so that we can open the freezer door wider and have a larger gap at the side or leave it as is. I'm thinking of just increasing the fridge size to 1050 x 700 - I think this should be ok - even if I can only open the freezer a bit over 90 degrees this should be ok....then it will only be sticking out on the other side My karma ran over your dogma Re: Does your fridge stick out? 8Aug 20, 2008 11:11 am Sorry Mick - should have explained better, if you look at our floorplan
http://www.porterdavis.com.au/content/H ... orne41.pdf and if you can see the wall closet to the hallway and how it is longer than the other side? That is what is going to stop us fully opening the freezer door, unless we increase the width by a great deal and have large gaps at the sides which we don't really want to do... My karma ran over your dogma Re: Does your fridge stick out? 10Aug 20, 2008 11:31 am Don't I know it
I'm really struggling to find the best option.... I think the best way is a 1050mm fridge width (the fridge we like are about 950mm wide at the most) so it should leave enough room to open the doors a fair way - just not the whole amount. And a 700mm fridge depth - this will leave it flush with the fridge side, but the freezer side will be against that stupid wall, hence reducing the amount we can open the door... My karma ran over your dogma Re: Does your fridge stick out? 11Aug 20, 2008 11:33 am Yeah I think you have it sussed, but still if you don't push it back to be flush on the pantry side so it sticks out a little that is still going to give you some relief on the hall side, may not be much but might be the difference. Re: Does your fridge stick out? 12Aug 20, 2008 11:35 am Yep I think thats what we are going to do, leave more gap on the hall side so that the freezer door can open a bit more, then if the pantry side is sitting proud of the cabinets on the pantry side it shouldn't be an issue with opening the fridge door My karma ran over your dogma Re: Does your fridge stick out? 13Aug 20, 2008 6:32 pm Bel,
Just a suggestion... why not swap the fridge opening and the closet... then use a cavity slider for your pantry instead of the standard door. ----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Built the Nevada 42 Next project - landscaping! Re: Does your fridge stick out? 14Aug 20, 2008 6:41 pm That is a very good suggestion VJ - I never thought of that! I have tender on Tuesday and I am going to bring it up then Thank-you so much - this would get rid of the worry about opening the doors! Your a champ
Shouldn't be any extra cost either because its not like we are moving wires etc My karma ran over your dogma Re: Does your fridge stick out? 15Aug 20, 2008 6:46 pm There should be no cost for moving the fridge opening to ther side.
But if you would go for the cavity sliders, then there's an extra cost for that (especially if you would go for glazed timber pantry door ). ----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Built the Nevada 42 Next project - landscaping! Re: Does your fridge stick out? 17Aug 21, 2008 8:21 pm Regarding the width of your fridge space, look at the fridge's manual (most companies have these available free online) and check what the required gaps either side are.
Our fridge is 890mm wide but requires a minimum gap of 1100mm It also indicates that it should not have more than 75mm at the back but ours will have about 170mm due to the size of the fridge space. The plans showing our fridege space say its 944mm but accoring to our SS this does not take into account plastering, and he says it will be 910-920mm at most once its done. ETA luckily my relos incl. 4 carpenters and 2 plasterers so we are fixing it post handover. Building in manor lakes 2008 Thanks Simon, I guess I'm no concerned with the volume of the noise rather that dead and hollow sound and feel that is associated with floating floors. But I'm not sure… 3 6141 I had a similar issue with my fridge not too long ago. It wasn't the same model, but the symptoms were pretty much the same: the compressor would start and then stop… 3 7531 4 14293 |
