Browse Forums Kitchen Corner 1 Apr 18, 2017 10:11 pm Just wondering, can Caesarstone waterfall edges sit on top of floating laminate floor boards, without causing an issue as the flooring needs to be able to expand? If so, what should the correct procedure be with installation? Should a mitered or butt joint be used? Cheers. Our flooring installer said it is ok for the waterfall edges to sit on top of the laminate floorboards but the kitchen installer will not accept that. If the floor expands it could cause an issue with the caesarstone & it might crack from the movement. Fit Kitchen before the flooring goes down but leave panels and waterfalls off 2. Fit floating floor so that it runs under the cabinets slightly. 3. Fit Panels 4. Fit kick board faces on top of the floor 5. Fit stone and waterfalls. The waterfalls will no sit on top of the floor. The floor doesn't have to support the weight of the waterfall. It should sit 1mm off the floor to allow it to move. The glue stone masons use is really strong. The waterfalls should be glued to the side of the cabinets and once the glue has dried it will never move. I have a feeling bulk builders don't coordinate trades as well. Stone comes in one day. I imagine it's more to do with not wanting to do it that way rather than can't, but certainly seems to be the standard. majestic35.weebly.com Re: Waterfall Edge on floating laminate flooring? 7Apr 20, 2017 12:49 pm Berek Ceasarstone cracking? If the floor is laid properly and there is a gap under the end and above the boards, I doubt there'd be enough pressure to crack the stone. My 2c I'm told the Caesarstone could crack at the mitred join if it sits on floating boards and the floor moves. The kitchen installers will not allow a gap underneath the waterfall edges, as they said the edges must sit on top of a hard surface, such as the concrete slab or tiles. Thanks for your help anyway. I did not know the edges are glued onto the sides of the cabinets, that's good to know. So the cabinets would actually hold most of the weight of the edges. Do you prefer to use a mitred joint or butt joint when installing waterfalls in kitchens with laminate flooring? Re: Waterfall Edge on floating laminate flooring? 9Apr 20, 2017 5:42 pm Yes, if the waterfall is glued properly then the cabinets can take all the weight. I prefer a mitre as I think the look better.
