Browse Forums Kitchen Corner 1 Aug 12, 2008 3:33 pm I had my heart set on gas as everyone had told me how quick it was etc, but I just saw a demonstration with an induction cooktop and I was very impressed.
To save the cost of running a gas line behind our house and out to the fence lineI thought induction might be the way to go. Any ideas/experiences? Thanks Andrea Re: Gas or Induction 2Aug 12, 2008 3:39 pm Induction is more effecient, safer and easier to clean than gas. You can also set it to a very low heat, which can't be done with gas.
The only downside with induction is when it comes ot wok cooking or similar. Damn.
Perhaps you can get an electric wok if you wanted to do wok stuff. Sandra Re: Gas or Induction 4Aug 13, 2008 11:05 am I'm a big gas fan. I wouldn't use anything else for a cooktop. But a lot depends on what type of cooking you do.
Perhaps I am a bit biased though as I'd cook in the wok at least twice a week. Also in general electric woks are useless, they don't get hot enough. I also like gas for cooking steak and many other dishes for the heat reason as well. Many dishes need to be seared at a high temperature. Watch any cooking and/or restaurant show. They always use gas. If it's good enough for Jamie and Gordon. Jo I leave you to fend for yourself, figure things out yourself. And just to add my 2c in, we've always had electric even at mum & dad's growing up, and people always raved about gas cooktops. In this rental we have gas, and I have to say I'm not in love with it! We're putting induction in our new place and I'm looking forward to using that! Again, I think it's just a personal pref thing!
