Browse Forums Kitchen Corner 1 Oct 18, 2016 10:29 am I have all but upgraded to Polytec vinyl however when I went into a local shop to get a sample of the colour I have selected online, they said they have actually stopped doing the vinyl kitchens, including the thermo polytec range, because they have had ongoing issues with peeling... Now I am worried. I want a handleless kitchen but don't want Kaduna runners. Originally I wanted the 'sharknose' AKA 'bevilled' handleless option however apparently I can't get this in polytec- 'Tempest woodgrain' and the only profile of door they offer in handleless for this colour is 'Bronte' which has a small rebate in the top. Now I am worried. If I stick with Laminex Riven finish, they were simply going to cut the top of the door on a 45 degree angle and paint the top! I paid $1300 to have that done to the kitchen obviously got charged $1200 in error for this option to two laundry cupboards. Appreciate any advice M Y C U S T O M C O R A L B R O N T E 43 ...............Kitchen! 16 Nov 2016 https://forum.homeone.com.au/viewtopic.php?f=31&t=79581 Re: Polytec vinyl and handleless options 2Oct 18, 2016 11:52 am Painting the top of the door because it's been cut on a 45 degree angle sounds like a bit of a worry to me. Not very durable. Your builder might not be aware that there's a better option. I work for Laminex and you can actually ask them to "reverse bevel" the Riven finish doors. They will put a good hard wearing laminate edge on it (on the angle). We've got them on display in the Adelaide Showroom and it looks great. Get them to ask for the "componentry" section of Laminex, not the flat sheet sales. Vinyl is a great product, it's tough and there's no joins on the edges. This is much more of a bonus for white doors because joins stand out more on light colours. The peeling issue only happens in hot and humid conditions and a lot of people prefer not to take the risk. Good luck. Re: Polytec vinyl and handleless options 3Oct 18, 2016 12:54 pm Verity Jayne Painting the top of the door because it's been cut on a 45 degree angle sounds like a bit of a worry to me. Good luck. Thanks so much! Really appreciate it. I love the Laminex, I just want something quite dark with a Woodgrain finish. I had selected the charcoal riven finish from the impressions range, but the light in my kitchen won't show much grain, and I think the burnished wood is a bit too busy for my space. Could you recommend any other laminex colours? Thank you! C U S T O M. C O R A L. Charcoal is just plain colour with a rough texture to it. Have a look at Nuance finish, its more of a stripy texture than Riven. You cant get it in Charcoal though... Fossil is a nice dark colour but much warmer than Charcoal. It's more in the brown/grey colourway. Get a sample, and the biggest one you can. Trying to look at it online really isn't that helpful. Have you considered leaving the tops of the doors and drawers square and putting an aluminium rail behind for the finger pull. This saves money and can look quite good when done right. That's why we steered away from Kaduna handles. Having said that, our colour consultant was a clown so we have never really had a proper consultation. It's only now that I'm trying to work with the kitchen company to do a last minute change in colour that the vinyl option has come up. Apparently the colour I want doesn't come in mdf C U S T O M. Are we talking like 5 years? 10 years? [/url] It doesn't actually have anything to do with kids or how well you look after it. Vinyl is applied under heat and pressure. Any heat source can eventually effect the vinyl making it bubble, shrink and peel away. This typically happens around ovens, cooktops and overhead doors above cooktops, toasters and kettles. Google it and you will see there has been so many problems with it. Sure its better than it used to be but I actively steer my customers away from it as I don't want to have to deal with the warranty problems!!
