We are going for the laminex roman marble, but in a flint finish. Not nice and shiny like the diamond gloss but a bit more durable. We got some samples of the diamondgloss and the flint finish and ran our keys over them pretty hard. Diamondgloss showed all the scratches, flint finish you couldn't see the scatches that much Re: Laminates that replicate a stone finish 24Aug 08, 2008 8:10 am Rachelle There seems to be conflicting advice re the diamond gloss as I'm sure I recall a thread here that said that it is highly scratch resistant. You're right RAchelle, that's why I went to my colour appt with that surface in mind. I had based my decision on HOMEONE members' opinions. However, that wasn't the case at the appt. I wonder now whether discouraging me from selecting diamond gloss was only so that the builder was covering himself, in case I came back with a complaint in the future & NOT because it wasn't a superior product ? Maybe it is fine as a benchtop. Thinking about it now, why would Laminex open themselves up to warranty problems by selling an inferior quality benchtop material ? That wouldn't make financial sense ??? The finishes on the laminate are pretty much the same toughness The difference is diamond gloss exposes scratches, dents and marks alot easier than flint or velvet finish The flint or velvet finish disperses the light rays in all different directions because of the slightly textured surface thus hiding any wear and tear easily The diamond gloss finish reflects light in the same direction so when you scratch it, the light reflects in a different direction thus being more noticible. Builders are hesitant to use this product because if they scratch it, you are definitely going to notice it and 9 out of 10 times the builders has to pay for a new one. Unless you are super careful and have no kids, i would recommend flint or velvet finish. Kitchens are like finger prints, no two are ever the same!! It helps when a benchtop is a low sheen or velvet finish as it tends to hide the latter better. I like the laminates that have a unique look or feel. Of particular note is ash dust and cotton craft by laminex and crystal topaz, white tigris, shadow silky and almond leather. The cotton craft and white tigris have a parchment look, the shadow silky feels great and has a unique shimmer. The rest are stone imitations that are not over powering, just right. Smartpack, I had a look at the laminex ones you mentioned - they are nice. What brand are the others? Re: Laminates that replicate a stone finish 29Aug 09, 2008 9:53 am They are by Wilson Art, more designer orientated than laminex

We're planning on using Pure Mineralstone for our benchtop. Our builder wont allow us to use any other gloss laminate due to the problems with scratching. I'm pretty sure he said the DG didn't scratch. Re: Laminates that replicate a stone finish 31Aug 16, 2008 10:54 pm We are almost certainly going to go with the DG too. I have just been out to the Laminex display centre here in Brisbane where they have 4 displays of DG. There is no doubt you will get finger marks but I had a good scratch at it on a 15cm sample square and it looks pretty good. Obviously, constant scratching over time might make a difference but nothing stays perfect these days. Ho hum.
Re: Laminates that replicate a stone finish 32Aug 18, 2008 2:04 pm Seriously we have Laminex diamondgloss Kasmir Granite in our laundry with no visible scratches. We CONSTANTLY have clothes basket on it and it does not have scratches that are highly visible. Maybe it depends on the pattern. But I am VERY happy with my bench and would do it again and believe me I am not careful with it.
I believe the normal gloss not the diamond gloss scratches easy Re: Laminates that replicate a stone finish 34Aug 24, 2008 2:18 pm I'm going for Quantum Quartz benchtops in the kitchen in Coral Reef (with Laminex flint finish Moleskin cabinets). Also putting a new cupboard in the adjacent laundry - a bit decandent to have QQ there so came across a Laminex Sqaureform benchtop colour called Sand Pebble in natural finish. Its a perfect match for the QQ Coral Reef - I had a sample square on a larger piece of QQ and you couldn't pick the difference. After reading this thread, my only concern is that this will be durable enough for washing baskets, exposure to washing chemicals etc. Cheers Aquagal (looking forward to life after renos) Generally, the texture that you listed will have a 2mm size stone chip in it which is dragged with float to give the lines Any patch work needs to be 2mm less than face… 2 1821 Hi, did you get any money from insurance? if you did, does it match what you've already paid the builders? 3 9565 4 14454 |
