Browse Forums Kitchen Corner 1 Aug 18, 2016 3:49 pm Hi all We are needing to do some modifications to some of the cabinetry in our kitchen to fit a larger fridge and I'm also looking to install a double oven (or two ovens one on top of the other) where the existing oven in, while relocating the microwave (not sure where I will put this yet, perhaps in the butlers pantry. As it stands, the fridge cavity is too small for a fridge big enough for our large family. We know it is going to need to be made higher as well as a little wider. I'm assuming the ovens are all roughly the same size externally, but can I ask what order I should be doing this in? We already know which fridge we will be purchasing so we will go ahead and purchase that now, but in regards to the cabintery, should we be making sure we have selected our ovens prior to having any of the modifications drawn or are the externals of most wall ovens a standard size? I understand that the cupboards at the top above the fridge cavity are going to have to be made shorter or replaced as the doors match the rest of the kitchen, how do we go about making sure they're kept that way. Will any good cabinet maker be able to source replacement doors or replicate them? They're laminted doors with grooves to match the rest of the kitchen. From the photos, does anyone have any idea where I could source replacement doors from myself should I need to? Any idea on what we should be budgeting for in costs for us have the fridge cavity widened(if needed) and hightened, as well as making any modifications necessary to install two ovens (I'm assuming I will lose one of the bottom drawers as well as the microwave cavity? Or perhaps I'm best off keeping the microwave where it is and loosing both drawers at the bottom to house another oven? Are we better of just starting from scratch rather than modifying the existing cabinets? Are we usually looking at a huge amount of money to add the electrical wiring for another oven? I'd be interested in any feedback or advice on a modification such as this as well as anything else we should be aware of.. Photos are below. Thanks in advance!! But in all honesty I would just completely remove the unit and get a new one made to fit. You're probably best to budget $2g. For cabinet and electrical. In regards to microwave i would probably move it so that all the appliances are at a good working height. Re: Modifications to Kitchen Cabinetry 3Sep 05, 2016 2:00 pm Just a heads up your doors are not laminate doors. The would be either vacuum form or polyurethane doors. That type of door is easily available from Tesrol or Polytec that any good cabinetmaker will be able to order. You need to work out exactly which appliances you are getting and then make the modifications to suit.
