Browse Forums Kitchen Corner 1 Aug 03, 2008 6:03 pm Hi, am fairly new to this site though have read many of the threads. We are building our home and have to go in over the next couple of weeks to do colour selections-exciting but can be stressful! I don't like the ultra modern look. Initially, I had tentatively picked cafe cream doors from polytech with a mink caeserstone bench but went in today to a Kitchen showroom which had samples and the colour just looked dirty. I saw a antique white kitchen there wich I really liked-it had a shaker style door with an acrylic benchtop-not sure which company this was from and coffee coloured splashback tiles. It looked fresh but homely. Wonder what peoples thoughts are? I had though of using antique white with possibly an almond rocca top and coffee coloured tiles. Also what are peoples' experience with large tiles-200 by 400 or 300 by 600 on their splashback? Re: Kitchen Colours......again 2Aug 03, 2008 8:48 pm Hi Sahana,
I'm a newbie too on the site, and I'm sure you will enjoy it! As far as helping you with colors - I'm no expert but I had Antique White USA (dulux) cupboards in my old house, and I loved them. We did a quick tidy up of the old kitchen, so didn't replace benchtops (they were black, wasn't a huge fan of them, but no $$$). I think the key is getting the 'white' right- not a bluey cold white, but a warm white, not a dirty creamy white like you said (does this make sense or have I had too much wine already??) Michelle will be able to help you out here - I'm sure you have read some of here color help posts..... Still not in. Don't ask!? Kitchen colours...again 3Aug 03, 2008 10:11 pm Thanks Bel, yes the site is very interesting. Kitchen colours are sooooo hard. Pictures in magazines don't always do justice, My current kitchen in our house is a timber look laminate with black granite benchtops which I really like but I would like to do something different. Also the kitchen in our new house does not get a lot of natural light so I thought best to keep the colous light. Trick is to get it light but not cold or stark. Re: Kitchen Colours......again 4Aug 04, 2008 4:45 pm Hiya,
our kitchen is antique white and Shaker style too! I didn't want bright white and worried that the antique white might look too cream but we are really pleased with It wasn't finished when we took this pic but you get the general idea! http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v309/poppett/P7190005.jpg There is another poster here called Rikster who has a similar (but much grander ) kitchen too, have a look at his thread and you'll be able to see it. Good luck and try not to stress too much,, says she who changed her mind over her kitchen daily for weeks Re: Kitchen Colours......again 5Aug 04, 2008 9:59 pm Sahana I had though of using antique white with possibly an almond rocca top and coffee coloured tiles. The above selections sounds lovely ……follow your heart, if it appeals to you and you like the look, go with it! NO probs with the large tiles as a splash back, I personally like a smaller one, it depend on your taste and style.
