I've been told Vinyl wrap wears better as 2 pack can chip over time? Re: 2 Pack or Vinyl Wrap? 3Jun 18, 2016 10:10 am I'm also struggling with same decision. We had 2 pac in our last kitchen and after 10 years it did look great BUT I remember it had a cracked area on a door which I must have cleaned a lot (shaker doors..maybe I kept spilling water on the door as it was under the sink). Plus there were a couple of chips...pretty minor though. I think a vinyl wrap door might hold up better.... Re: 2 Pack or Vinyl Wrap? 4Jun 18, 2016 10:50 am lazandjohn I think a vinyl wrap door might hold up better.... Massive NEGATIVE on that comment! Sorry to be blunt. I have been building kitchens for 20 years and would strongly recommend against vinyl wrap! Just google vinyl wrap reviews and read all the problems people have. It really isn't good at all. The only thing vinyl wrap is good for is the kitchen companies. Its cheaper for us to purchase and cuts production times by around 2.5weeks. It saves us money and gives back space on our factory floor. 2pac takes 2.5weeks to be sprayed by a professional. Sure 2pac can chip but it usually takes a good hit to chip it. I have had 2pac in my kitchen for the last 5 years and have 3 chips. All of them are from my wife putting pots and pans in and out. I have a 6 and 8 year old and they haven't chipped it yet. There are different qualities of 2pac, there are some bad companies out passing off a very poor product that chips but its not proper 2pac! A couple of things to remember that 2 pac offers that no other door/finish offers, 1. You can get a touch up kit for paint chips. Ask your kitchen company for the kit when you are building and keep it in the back of the fridge. It will keep for years. Apply the touch up paint very lightly and build up 5-6 coats on the chip and it almost disappears! 2. 2pac doors can be easily repainted by any spray painter. I had a customer kid take to her doors with a knife, there were cuts and gouges everywhere. The doors are repaired like a car would be and then resprayed. You can respray just one or the whole kitchen. You can even change colours if you like. Seriously google vinyl wrap reviews and sit back and be ready to be shocked by the 1000s and 1000s of problems people have had with it. Its terriable in a kitchen around any heat source (ovens, toasters kettles) Cutting Edge Kitchens and Cabinet Making http://cuttingedgekitchens.net.au http://www.facebook.com/pages/Cutting-Edge-Kitchens/290484196676 Mobile : 0419 430 575 PH: 9452 4772 Fax :9452 4772 cuttingedgekitchens@outlook.com Re: 2 Pack or Vinyl Wrap? 6Jun 18, 2016 2:53 pm CuttingEdgeKitchens cplicious We're about to get our kitchen build and wondering if we should go 2 Pack or Vinyl wrap? Actually, thinking about it the kitchens may have been 2pac with a laminate back to the door, although I think there was a visible join. Who knows, not me obviously! Re: 2 Pack or Vinyl Wrap? 8Jun 19, 2016 10:33 am I would suggest 2pac every day of the week. Its available in an colour you like and comes in matt, satin, semi gloss and gloss. I can be touched up and fully repaired if necessary. Large builders love laminate and vinyl doors because they are quick and easy with a good profit margin for them. What they show isn't always best for the customer. 2pac doors are only ever paint on the face and edges. They almost always have a white satin back. Conversely I've heard of lots of problems with white 2 Pack yellowing in relatively short timeframes You were lucky then! You might have had an oven than didn't allow any heat our sideways. Google vinyl wrap and you will see the countless 1000s of issues people have had! Any 2pac the yellows is not 2pac! It would be a cheap imitation. I have replaced 100s of vinyl wrap doors, never ones I have supplied because I don't offer them to my customers. I would get at least 1-2 calls a week from people wanting to replace vinyl doors that have had big issues. What you need to remember is that I am not trying to sell you a kitchen or make any money from offering my advice. So my advice is totally unbiased and what I would tell my close family and friends based on over 20years in the industry! It is a very high gloss however. That means that a glued on edge strip is applied, so doors have to be square edged and no profile. Re: 2 Pack or Vinyl Wrap? 13Jun 20, 2016 12:04 pm lazandjohn CEK- what about Polytec Createc? Chippy is spot on with what the product is. I would use Createc over vinyl wrap every day of the week! Given your background I'd like to hear why. My experience with vinyl wrap has been positive and I've never seen a house in Perth with issues with it but there seems to be a school of thought that it's doomed to fail over time. Googling this you get the feeling that it's a problem with older installations. Re: 2 Pack or Vinyl Wrap? 16Jun 22, 2016 9:11 am Hi Althom, I worked many years with a company than manufactured Vinyl wrap doors and to say they had a deserved bad reputation would be an understatement. Not only was the Vinyl in the Australian market poor quality, so was the adhesive and manufacturing process. The product has come a long way in the last ten years, so much so I have installed it in my own home recently in a pretty spectacular kitchen. We install a lot of kitchens each year, with a fair chunk being Vinyl Wrap, and can honestly say we very rarely have a call back for faulty product. For me, paint can be hit and miss with quality issues but I guess it's a personal choice. Looking to do a kitchen reno in our investment property and 2 Pack is nearly 3* the cost of vinyl wrap. I'll be using the same company that did the vinyl wrap cupboards in our kitchen back in 2005 and those cupboards are still in perfect condition so not expecting any issues.
Re: 2 Pack or Vinyl Wrap? 18Jun 23, 2016 6:32 am But can you repair vinyl wrap? No. What about in a few years time and a kid damages a door, you have to buy a new door, they may not even make that colour vinyl anymore. With polyurethane it can be repaired and resprayed at anytime by any painter! Hi CEK, I guess it's all down to personal opinion, but to answer your question - I do both vinyl and painted kitchens, it's purely what the client is wanting. If I am asked which way to go, then I will almost always steer clients down the vinyl path. If a kid damages a door, in vinyl wrap it's about $40 to order a new door (sometime a little more if its a bigger door). This is far more efficient than the cost of a painter repairing the damage, sanding the door, mixing the paint and spraying? Most cabbies would have a minimum charge much higher than the cost of a vinyl door. Again, it's just personal opinion. I understand that those who have come through the industry and have been taught that paint is the best will be pro paint, and similar with those with vinyl wrap. I have been involved in both and personally like vinyl wrap.
