Browse Forums Kitchen Corner 1 Jun 17, 2016 8:22 pm Discussing our pantry options at the moment and we were initially going to have full length doors with 3 or 4 internal drawers down the bottom with the standard shelves up top. Have just thought that maybe it's best to have these doors as external drawers instead, to save opening the pantry doors each time I needed to access something in the drawer. Only downside I can see is that the pantry would seem a little 'split' and you'd now have 3 handles and drawer units on the outside instead of a flush door finish. Any experience or advice re this or just personal preference? I have kids and access the pantry a lot throughout the day, although not sure what would be put in the drawers at this stage. Re: Kitchen pantry drawer options - external or internal? 2Jun 17, 2016 10:46 pm Yeah go external. Our current (rental) place has drawers inside and it is a PIA. Especially as the drawers are in a double width pantry and go 3/4 of the way. So need to open both doors to get to the drawers. The other 1/4 of the space is taken up by wine storage racks. As for it looking split, that in itself is maybe not such a bad thing. In our new house (hopefully we get the keys this week), the double pantry will be split into 4. Lower cabinets at bench height, and upper cabinets above. I am worried it will look too busy, but the reason I am doing it is we have a single cabinet on the other side of the fridge which will have a data cabinet in the top section and storage below. So want that split, so doing the double pantry to match. Along the wall L to right it is double pantry, fridge, single pantry/data rack. Re: Kitchen pantry drawer options - external or internal? 3Jun 18, 2016 10:55 am Go external for day to day use and practicality Go internal for looks, two tall doors only really look a lot better. It comes down to how you use your kitchen and if you prefer looks over day to day use or the other way around. It really is a personal choice. We've decided to go external drawers for ease of use. Can just see it becoming very tiring accessing the internal drawers time and time again every day. Re: Kitchen pantry drawer options - external or internal? 5Jun 21, 2016 8:51 am Hi Sunnyside, I have internal drawers in my metre wide pantry. The doors have tip ons (push to open) and the drawers are fully extendable, soft close from blum. It has really changed the way we use our pantry and contents is now so well organised. One thing to consider if you are going down the external drawers path, is to allow for the heights of items you wish to store in the lower part of your pantry. Items like cereal boxes, large Tupperware and jars will mean either bigger drawers or stored in the top half of your pantry. Hope this helps With 25 years kitchen experience and a passion for what I do, I have joined this forum to offer advice or at least my opinion on all things relevant to kitchens. Have been doing just that and working out where things will go. At the moment we have provision for a 1200mm wide 2-door pantry and I'm still to check whether the drawers will be 600 or 1200mm wide. Any advice re a 1200mm wide drawer? How would it handle a fully loaded tin/jar/flour weight? Edit: Actually, now that we've changed to external drawers there'll only be one drawer across. So either 1000mm or 1200mm wide. Drawer runners will be Hettich Innotech. Re: Kitchen pantry drawer options - external or internal? 7Sep 05, 2016 7:26 pm That is the thing that we are dong in our new form. Three outside drawers to seat top tallness with ways to 24c above. We right now have IKEA outside drawers in our present wash room and they are great for tins, jugs, pasta and so forth Re: Kitchen pantry drawer options - external or internal? 8Sep 07, 2016 12:07 pm kitchen Three outside drawers to seat top tallness with ways to 24c above.
