Browse Forums Kitchen Corner 1 May 07, 2016 11:11 pm Just finalising the cabinet order for my new pantry. It is basically two parallel lines of cabinets. The outside wall will have a row of base cabinets with a bench on top, the cabinets will have a shadow line and handle less pull. On the inside wall is a full height double door pantry, the fridge cavity and a full height single door pantry. I also plan to have a shadow line and handle less pull by dividing the doors into 2. Essentially making an upper an lower door like the cabinet in the link below. http://www.flatpackkitchens.com.au/cabi ... andle-less My question, with the full height cabinets (which are 2200mm high) should I put the shadow line at the same height as the cabinets opposite, more or less like the picture? This would mean a lower door height of 790mm and an upper door height of of 1385mm with a 25mm gap for the shadow line and handle pull. Or should I split the 2200mm cabinets so the doors are more or less equal height? Eg 1085mm and 1090mm high with 25mm gap. My gut feeling is same height, would have went bench height if benches were next to it, but want to see what the general opinion is. Also is 25mm a sufficient gap to get the hands in to pull the doors open? Re: Shaddow line full height cabinets 2May 08, 2016 12:45 am I'd have the same height both sides. It's probably not a deal breaker as they are opposite each other and don't connect up, but I prefer to keep the same line running right around the kitchen. I run a 30mm gap on my finger pulls between drawers and doors and 35mm gap under the top of benchtops. Thats just because the benchtop overhang makes it a little harder to reach the top of doors so the extra 5mm helps. Everyone builds slightly differently so I'm sure there will be a slight variation. What sort of handle less method are you going for? Is the shadowline recessed or flush with the face of carcass? Are you having shark nose on the doors and drawers? What I plan to do is to match the style in the main kitchen which is being supplied by the builder. Below is a picture (not of my kitchen but of another member here) which shows the method the builders kitchen company uses and my supplier can easily match. Think I will go for the 30mm gap for the pantry doors. Though builders kitchen company goes for 25mm under benches. Not sure if it makes a difference to useability but they don't have an overhang with the stone benchtop, rather the stone lines up with the door/drawer fronts. http://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/2016050 ... 658318.jpg Re: Shaddow line full height cabinets 4May 09, 2016 1:04 pm I would have 25mm gaps and keep the shadow line at the same height as the other side. In fact visited a friend who has finger pull drawers (but push to open pantry) and just going through pretend motions it seemed akward to open an upper door higher than about 900mm. (if that makes sense). Whereas having the pull around 900mm was quite natural for the lower and (pretend) upper doors.
